"Very nice stay, good food and nice facilities."

8.0

Overall the stay was very pleasant. The venue was beautiful and cozy, the rooms we booked were very clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was tasty and the available food was of a very good quality. Furthermore, the venue has a huge garden fitted with a playground for kids, volleyball net, camp fire facilities, etc. It is the perfect venue to spend some quality time during the summer holidays.

The stay was very nice. However, there are little things that could be improved: for example the water tap on bathroom sink was loose and one of the rooms we booked did not have an insect net on the windows, hence there were a lot of wasps trapped inside from when the windows were opened, and also we had a lot of mosquitos visiting during the night, as we slept with the window open. And above all, it would be nice to have aircon, especially for the hot summer days. But those are just little things that could be improved.

"Perfect place to stay during a Transylvania trip"

10.0

This is an incredible place to spend a couple of days during a trip to Transylvania. The rooms are beautifully designed and there are so many different indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. It's absolutely worth it to book some time at their wood fired sauna and hot tub up on the hill!

Everything was great!

"Charming, authentic concept, though a bit "over-marketed""

9.0

Remote and dreamy setup, surrounded by beautiful nature. A nice place to take a step back from troubled routine, with a deep rustical touch. The beach area is a true highlight, the natural pond is a gem and perfect for a morning swim (if you understand the concept of natural ponds, featuring plants, frogs and other wildlife, that keep the water fresh). Dining under trees with natural shade is charming, as well as the refurbished farmhouses, scattered throughout the village.

The accommodation and amenities are in some degree aged and could use some refurbishments, especially the sanitary facilities. We expected a more personal atmosphere and some interaction with locals or the concept providers, but this was not the case. The stuff was a bit slow and distant, very formal and not really informed about what they were offering to guests. As for the highly advertised cuisine, we enjoyed it and appreciated some features, but it was not the most special dinner we ever had, in terms of ingredients and rather simple structured dishes, which don't justify the overrated costs. Overall, the marketing and the presentation is a bit over the top, in terms of "glossy and fancy", maybe leading to unrealistic expectations on behalf of the guests. But to be fair, the atmosphere and the location are definitely worth trying, with many charming aspects and definitely providing a peaceful getaway and a good rest.

"Beautiful setting, excellent chef, modest service, concept needs deeper commitment."

8.0

I'm still learning what "albergo diffuso" truly means. While in Romania Transilvania would be the perfect place for that, as more than one location operates under this concept. My take is that it should transform an entire village in danger of disappearing into more than accommodations for tourists while preserving community life. It's a philosophy of sustainable tourism that creates authentic connections between travelers and local culture. I haven't felt community integration — scarce local products despite nearby producers, no other meaningful village connection. Probably because there is little local community left. As a caveat, I'm still learning about the concept and I've stayed only one night. Valea Verde captures all the execution and visual elements beautifully, as well as the formal conditions: restored Saxon houses scattered through peaceful village scenery. When we arrived it was raining and quite cold outside. The rooms were initially at an okay temperature, but overnight it got quite chilly, which prompted me to make a fire — less resourceful guests might have asked for instructions, but I found it manageable to figure out myself. The plumbing in bathrooms has a smell, and the bathrooms themselves were quite an invigorating experience in the morning. The restaurant, while featuring excellent cuisine in a stunning setting, operates as haute cuisine without warning — we waited two hours for dinner costing half our accommodation fee, expecting village-style fare. At €100+ per room plus at least double that for the food the deeper meaning feels incomplete. My bad. The potential is there. Perhaps longer stays reveal more depth. Perhaps I arrived too late and they grew tired about the endless usual local hospitality problem. For me, the gap between what I've understood so far about the concept and authentic community integration is noticeable.

The gap between concept promise and execution particularly on the service side and especially given the pricing.

"Overpriced agritourism"

5.0

Situated in a very small, poor village that looks like it's still the 1960s there (dirt roads, farm animals in every backyard), the retreat consists of several beautifully renovated houses spread throughout the village. Therefore it's very quiet. Our room was pretty and clean and private since the other rooms in the house were empty. The breakfast was very good and had some interesting specialities.

For what it is, the place is extremely overpriced, especially the food (including water) - and you have to eat there as there is no other restaurant far and wide. While the cooking is not bad, it is FAR from the quality they advertise, which the fancy 7 course dinner and wine selection cannot make up for. The dinner is one fixed menu every day, relying heavily on meat and especially pork. If you have food allergies or are vegetarian, good luck to you. Also good luck if you're not a fan of random (if well-behaved) dogs joining you for dinner. While the owner likes to create a friendly atmosphere, both him and the staff never asked if we wanted any recommendations for activities like they advertise; instead, they seemed to focus entirely on a group that apparently had booked a special package. As far as the natural surroundings go - this is not the retreat's fault, but we were shocked to find the forests and hiking routes littered with trash everywhere. This is not what "untouched" nature or even "wilderness" looks like. I would have liked to learn more about the place I was staying at, at the very least in terms of local / traditional food, instead of just using the rural area and the poor population as a supposedly romantic backdrop for a German entrepreneur and his well-off guests.
