Hotel Sonnenhof

Arriving here, we had a clear case of déjà vu. I had completely forgotten that we had stayed here in 2010. The room we were given for the three of us was effectively two rooms, a double and a single which were adjoining. The rooms were very well appointed and I think they had been renovated extensively since we last stayed. The bed was very comfortable, and we had a good night's sleep - but in the meantime.. In the meantime, we had dinner in the restaurant, which is in a conservatory. We were very impressed. My wife and I each had the Zander, cooked perfectly with a potato crust, on a bed of spinach. I had dessert, which was a pleasant crème brûlée. The wine list was appropriate, with a welcome bias towards local wines. In the morning, breakfast was wide ranging and the kitchen produced a couple of very nice fried eggs with a smile. Our dog was also welcomed.

Unlike for many of my fellow reviewers, my reason to stay at the Hotel Sonnenhof was not for a stop-over on my way south but to avoid high-priced hotels in Luxembourg. It is about a 40 min drive into Lux center outside of rush hour. Other than that, no compromise whatsoever. Sonnenhof was a pleasant experience. It shows that it is run but someone who cares about the place. Nicely furnished, good restaurant (busy even on a Tuesday night), decent breakfast also. Wifi is at no additional cost and was fast. No A/C in room (radiator heat only) but this place is in the middle of nowhere, so no issue with sleeping with open window because it is quiet. As others mentioned, no elevator either but I am sure if asked, the staff would lend a hand. (I didn't mind carrying up my bags and therefore did not ask for help.) All in all excellent value for the money. Will stay again if in the area in the future.

This hotel is perfect for a stopover on a trip from Calais to Bavaria. We stayed twice both going and returning. Its location is easy to find just off the main autobahn going from Luxembourg into Germany. The family and staff are delightful so welcoming and helpful. The accommodation is top class with spacious rooms, very comfy beds and beautiful bathrooms. Spotlessly clean. There is tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms which is a bonus in Germany. There is plenty of free parking and WiFi was also easily accessed and again free. Our outward trip involved a Monday night so the restaurant was closed but the owners still provided "a small carte" for residents - not so small still a choice of 5 dishes. We had chicken and it was delicious. On our return trip we stayed 2 nights eating in the restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. It was rather busy tho on the Friday so booking would be wise. The breakfasts offer a wide choice and we were also offered omelettes. Overall an excellent place to stay and we will definitely return on day.

We enjoyed this little hotel with excellent restaurant but business is primarily the restaurant as we had to check in in restaurant. Excellent breakfast and well located for visiting the Moselle. Unfortunately no elevator or help to bring suitcases up two very high floors or 4 flights of stairs! Some small things: Toiletries need to be a little more generous as one small bar of soap only for shower and sink for three days, and broken liquid soap dispenser. Also a little disconcerting that smoke detector was missing. Also bathroom light is automatic, would have preferred a light switch.

I have stayed in this hotel already several times and every time I go to Luxemburg, I come back. Although located very near to the Motorway (Luxemburg-Saarbrücken), it is very quiet. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms very nicely decorated with comfortable beds. Breakfast buffet with lots of items to choose from and great quality. The hotel has a great quality restaurant (if you want to eat there, better make a reservation! even people from Luxemburg come to eat there regularly). And if the weather is good, you can eat outside on a lovely terrace with view on the orchard.

the hotel is located just outside Luxembourg on the south of the Moselle river. Nice rooms and plenty of free parking. Staff are super friendly although not a lot of English is spoken. Don't worry, they will adjust to your ignorance of French! The standout is the restaurant. My advice is that you book a table when you make your hotel reservation. The restaurant is widely recognised as one of the best in the region for good reason ... the food is magnificent. Breakfast is also very good and you will depart quite contented. A very nice place indeed.

Visited here a few times now generally as a winter stop off to Italian ski resorts. Great location just on German/Luxembourg borders. I just wanted to again praise the Sonnenhof staff for being so friendly and efficient. Delivering great food in the cleanest environment your ever likely to visit.

My husband and I stayed here on our journey from the UK to Austria. This hotel was an excellent choice. It was not far from the autobahn, easy to find, quiet and very comfortable. it was in a beautiful location. The room was large, the bed blissful and the bathroom was well appointed. The only downside was the quality of the towels, very scratchy! We ate in the hotel and whilst more expensive than expected, the food was very good and the service excellent. The fact that the restaurant was full of locals says it all. I felt that it was a very good choice for a one night stay and wished I had booked it for the return journey.
