"Fantastic and good value"

10.0

Stayed here for one night with a couple of friends and the room did the job! It was a cold November night and the room was well warm enough, as well as the windows blocking out pretty much all of the noise from outside. The pub staff also informed us we could leave our bags with them on the second day so we did not have to lug these around York with us. All in all, friendly, cheap and we would stay again!

"Food wasn’t cooked"

2.0

I was in York today with my mum and we went here to get something to eat, I ordered a beef burger, and when it came, the bun had blood on it, and the burger was oozing out blood. My mum got the steak pie, and it wasn’t even a pie. She got 3 pieces of steak, with a pie top on top of it. She said that all she could taste was salt as well. Terrible.

"Ideal location but too noisy"

6.0

A large group of us booked rooms here for two nights as part of the home leg of our Scotland NC500 road trip. Not having been to York before, we were not aware this hotel is literally in the centre of the city and therefore surrounded by other pubs, restaurants and the food markets. Perhaps a little more research should have been undertaken on our part. The first hiccough occurred when we called ahead to enquire about the most suitable parking for our vehicles and unloading our baggage - the person behind the desk didn’t have a clue and we ended up skirting York city for about an hour before shooting into the nearest multi storey, which happened to be crazy expensive. The staff member wasn’t there when we arrived and the landlady was apologetic but it didn’t really help that we had been mislead and wasted a lot of time. The girl on the desk could only say “I don’t drive” as if that was some kind of justification for not knowing the basic parking arrangements of the road. We then found out the pub plays host to a band Friday and Saturday nights, in itself not a problem - however we were allocated a room right at the front of the pub overlooking the square and therefore copped all of the noise from downstairs and surrounding clubs/bars/high jinks from revellers. What also did not help was that the single glazed wooden framed windows did not close properly - even when I managed to close them (I was afraid they would be damaged) being single glazed they did not block out one bit of noise. There was honestly noise outside til around 4am on both nights, and then a bin lorry arrived one morning causing further disruption. Obviously not the fault of the hotel though. The rest of the party’s rooms were not at the front so they did not have the same noise issues as us. I would probably stay here again from a convenience perspective but I would avoid a “room with a view” at the front as I didn’t get a good sleep either night unfortunately.

"Great spot."

10.0

Second time the Wife and I have stayed here. Clean and tidy. Ideally situated in the Shambles so all landmarks are close. Could be a bit noisy for older guests on Friday and Saturday when bands are on, but didn't affect us. Would reccomend, we'll no doubt go again.

we stop in for a fine cold wine and a cold pint of cider, nice place, has nice items for the roman baths on display, the roman baths are down stairs worth a look at. we have visited this pub before about 7 years ago and this is the first time i noticed they had a beer. so a win win situation.

"CENTRAL LOCATION & EXCELLENT VALUE FOR MONEY"

10.0

Great location, in the heart of the city centre. Our twin room (No 2) was clean, spacious and airey - 4 big windows, which all opened. There was a small, but adequate en suite. Beds were comfortable. Hot drink making facilities and a wall mounted TV were also in the room. We were allowed to leave our bags prior to check in and after check out. Check in was quick and easy, and our bags had been put in our room for us. All members of staff were engaging, friendly and professional. Overall, it was excellent value for money (we only paid £50 for our twin room, for a Thursday night stay via Bookings.com). Be warned though, this is a city centre hotel, so expect noise at night / early morning. Our only suggestion for improvement would be to replace the hand towels, as they were old and tired. We would happily stay here again and would definately recommend it to others.

"Nice stay in the heart of the city centre"

10.0

The room was perfectly clean and very comfortable. Fantastic huge window, right in the very centre of York. The late night drinkers were noisy, and the early morning bin men were even noisier, but coming from the depths of the countryside this was what we wanted! Proper city stay in the most beautiful city in England, couldn't ask for more. Sharon and her team were friendly and accommodating and we would definitely stay again. Thank you.

"Busy city centre pub"

6.0

Called for a few beers whilst in town, and this is one of the regular places I visit whilst in the city, and been using the pub for 40 years. Good selection of beers, staff always friendly and can get busy.

"Deterirated"

4.0

We visit York at least once a year and have always ate at The Roman Bath. Unfortunately our recent visit proved to be a mistake. The prices have increased while the menu selection and quality of food have deteriorated. Home cooked chips were over cooked and less than appetising. They are currently advertising for a chef and I’m not surprised. I am afraid unless there is a vast improvement we will not visit again.
