The Wookey Hole Inn

We liked the shower attachment in the bathroom as the pump was good and water hot and fast. We denied taking any breakfast as apart from the locally sourced and well cooked steak at dinner the food was appalling. Staff were friendly on face value but quite unbothered regarding our situation and unwilling to change anything and very much unable to even apologise by the morning, presumably knowing the previous night must have been terrible. We could and should have been offered either complimentary drinks, food or even the meal but we were not even given an apology.

EVERYTHING! The place is very tired and needs a good overhaul. Clearly these people are in trouble, lack the empathy for their clients or maybe are ignorant of the hospitality industry. Unbeknown to us we arrived on the evening of a private function so the dining room was unavailable for us for our very important celebratory night. We should have been informed that dining facilities would not be available to us at the time of booking. Taking a table for 3 and chairs out of the function dining room to another area could have been an option, but instead we were offered a pokey brown corner on very low stools with an equally low level coffee table immediately beneath a giant TV screen showing a football game to which a group of the private function people were keen to view. Hence they all stared right at us for the duration of the game. We were served a really questionable meal beneath the screen and when I mentioned the seating issue which for us was for a special occasion I was told they would be happy to provide a white cloth and chair for me alone to sit on, but at this area, no where else .. highly inappropriate as then I would be very, much higher than the table and stools and TBH not a reasonable option. The private function people (who were far more important than us) appeared to have access to the rest of the downstairs including an area outside from where we were, which looked as if it might be an outside or a covered garden space... also an area we could have been placed in. The manager clearly lied to us as we were told by her that the function had no DJ or band just this current music (which at that time was at an acceptable level) and that it would be done by 10.30pm. However at 2.45am it was still banging through our room and I was about to go down and shout when it did reduce and was replaced by a loud shouting and screaming of girls and boys. Pillows and duvet were polyester filled and after a couple of hours dozing we could barely move.

Perfect location for walks and family. Very pet friendly which was really lovely. Food excellent. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

Rooms are a little tired. The bed had an odd wooden shelf all the way around which made it a little uncomfortable to get in and out of. Very smelly drains in bathroom.. TV was stuck on commentary.

Breakfast was great, and the staff so friendly and helpful throughout the stay. I will visit again for the 3rd time soon.

Nice spacious rooms, very clean.

The room was a little too warm for my Liking.
