Hotel Yassa

Location is right in front of JR Mihara Station, the hotel is literally a minute away. First I headed out to Setoda port, then spent overnight in this quaint hotel. Mihara is laidback, there is Yamada Denki (electronics store) and lots of tako (octopus) food elsewhere. My room was on the 5th floor I can spot incoming shinkansen and the atmosphere maybe bleak but I enjoyed the mountains and tranquility of Mihara. If you've plans in going to Tadanoumi early morning rather than getting powernaps in shinkansen, this hotel is your safest bet!

My family and I spent two nights in lovely Mihara in order to visit nearby Okunoshima, aka "Rabbit Island."I wouldn't say that this hotel is super comfortable: our room for three people was small with an equally small bathroom. It was warm in there, too, especially because we didn't know how to use the portable AC (I am sure I could have asked the staff but didn't want to bother them.) On the other hand, you can't beat the location, right across from Mihara train station. It's a lovely area, particularly at night. The neighborhood looks as if it were composed of several pedestrian streets, although they are not. Charming seafood restaurants abound, namely two of them right next to the Yassa hotel. Great staff. Free laundry facilities. I truly enjoyed our stay there.

Small rooms, generally clean, classic business hotel breakfast options where not very delicious price was pretty high compare to other places who offer more. Would not be my first choice if I had to go there again but than again also not the last one. The whole experience in a word mediocre.

On a work trip, with early starts, strange hours, and in a town with very limited English speaking population, the hotel did their utmost to be helpful. Early tray breakfast was provided on advance request. One member of staff had effective english, and made sure my advance requet was implemented - and tried to help when required. But the rest of the saff did their very best to be helpful and friendly, even with only one or two english words (and a phone call to a colleague!). Don't get me wrong, this is not 5* accommocation, it's a couple of stars, maybe three. But it's clean and competent if a little dowdy and - well - beige! The staff cannot be faulted for positive attitude and that makes the biggest difference when you roll up in a strange (and fairly small) town in a foreign culture for only a few days on a work trip. And to be honest, this attitude extended to pretty much most of the ;ocal people the team met whilst in Mihara - they just tried to be helpful and positive despite the language and culture barriers. What a refreshing change from some other places I've been. Would I come back? Yes, if I ever need to be in Mihara again. Therare other hotels there and some are reportedly just as good, but this is fine too.

If you are a tourist reading this review in English, I'd venture a guess that you're looking for accommodations before heading to Okunoshima (Rabbit Island) early in the morning to feed the bunnies while they are still hungry. There are few reasons I can think of to visit Mihara otherwise. In which case, this hotel is probably the best option in the area. It is right across the street from the JR station, from which you would probably arrive on Shinkansen from Osaka/Tokyo/Hiroshima. The following day, catch the 07:28 local train on the JR Kure Line to Tadanoumi (about 25 minutes) and connect to the 08:30 ferry. (Schedules change frequently, so please check!) The hotel itself is rather basic. We picked the largest room, the twin non-smoking, which at 23 square metres is adequate for two people. The pre-fab bathroom is tiny though, so small that the sink shares a tap with the shower. But all the mod-cons are there: Japanese bidet toilet, free-to-use washing machine and dryer (on the 3rd and 4th floors), vending machines, extra memory foam pillows (simply grab them from a rack in the lobby), pretty much everything you'd need. Because of our early morning departure we skipped the breakfast at the restaurant in favour of a takeout from the Lawson convenience store at the station; there are microwave ovens next to the lift on every floor you can use to heat up your food. The room was clean, if a bit old. This not being in a touristy part of Japan, front desk staff may not speak English, so be prepared to use Google Translate. But they are very helpful once you get your point across.

Wife and I arrived really late at night, it was nice that the hotel was right next to the station. The room was a little small, and there is a washer and dryer on the 4th floor if needed. Wife and I stayed there one night before our trip to Okunoshima. My biggest complaint was that my room smelled like smoke, even keeping the window open didn't really help. Its not the best hotel, but probably the best hotel in the area.

My partner and I stopped here after a long Shinkansen ride from Tokyo as we wanted somewhere to stay before getting the train and ferry to Okunoshima (Rabbit Island). Although this place is very conveniently located (right opposite Mihara station, which serves as a Shinkansen stop), I was initially a bit skeptical about this place because the pictures of the rooms made the place look very dated. Luckily however, I was pleasantly surprised by this place. The double room was big enough to fit everything with room for a small table and two chairs and whilst everything was quite dated in appearance, it was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a very small pre-fabricated one and larger/taller people may find them a bit difficult to navigate, but size-wise everything else was fine. We opted for the Japanese breakfast, which like the Western option was 700JPY. Both options are a set meal and I found the amount of food sufficiently filling and of decent quality. There is also a Lawson a couple of doors down from Mihara station as well as an Aeon department store/supermarket nearby for other supplies. Overall I was pleased with this hotel and would recommend it as a good stopover point.

There are not many choices of hotels there to choose, so for the money, this is the best. You could spend more but it's about same in other hotels. I called ahead and asked for extra bed pad to be placed underneath the bed sheet, and it helped me to sleep better. The Japanese mattress tends to be really hard for me, so this was helpful. The single room was so small, but that's normal in Japan, but I would ask for a single use of the double room for the next time, because it would not cost much even with breakfast. The breakfast is not buffet style, but it made me feel like i am having homemade breakfast cooked right then, in the small cafe on the second floor of the hotel. I have never had western style breakfast (meaning toast and ham& egg) with Miso soup! I wish I could have another cup of coffee, but was satisfied. But if you are a big man, it might not be enough but it was only 700 yen. Oh, They have laundry and dryer. It seemed free of charge, (only detergent is charged. ) but i did not use it so I was not paying much attention on prices.

Its main draw is its location which is across the railway station and is near the Aeon mall and post office. Staff are helpful and some of them speak English. Room is clean though the toilet is rather small. There are vending machines selling drinks and beer, and washing machines are available for free-use. Mihara is served by the Shinkasen Kodama service and is 30min from Hiroshima.

First of all, Mihara is a medium size town, and the station has more than one exit. To come to hotel Yassa, you must take the North exit. It is not on the shinkansen express route so you need to take another local after taking the express train. Yassa hotel is more of a budget type of hotel, and the facilities are what one wold expect from a budget hotel. But I liked how they had done it up. The best part is that it is just opposite to Mihara railway station (North exit) and so very convenient when catching the train.
