Manakau House The Old Manakau Hotel 1920

It is a grand old hotel with old world charm. Resident cats who love a good pat and you have the option of mingling with other guests in the shared lounge area with pool table and fireplace or keeping to yourself.

The downside is the windows are single glazed so if you are on the front side of the building, the traffic on State Highway one is pretty loud and constant and there are a number of freight trains that thunder through on the railway line beside the State highway. Come prepared with some airplugs if you're a light sleeper.

Warm and cozy.

The owners were very welcoming, with a hot fire ready for us.

The interior was very gracious, spacious and mix of old and new art quirky. Host and hostess very communicative and made sure we were comfortable, lighting fire before arrival, introducing us to the two cats. They have redecorated the old hotel to a high standard while retaining the charm. Off road parking in a relatively quiet area considering closeness of main road. Bowling club close by and walking trail.Thoroughly recommend.

No local eateries but kitchenette had microwave, toaster, all dishes you would need so go prepared with food for your stay. Local shop disappointingly short on supplies and fruit and vegie store closed at 5pm

The old charm ambience of a bygone era. Loved the guest rooms with all the thoughtful trimmings and the friendly welcome of Michelle. Well done!
