Hummer Hotel & Apartment Da Nang Beach

There's a lot to love about the Hummer Hotel. The beds are very comfortable, someone has clearly invested money in high quality mattresses. The location is both quiet and central and it's worth me saying this is extremely rare. Da Nang has a lot of construction going on and there are late parties and loud karaoke in many locations in the city. The rooms smell beautiful, again, this is not always the case. Some buildings have mould problems that come with the humidity, but not the Hummer. Other great positives include a lovely little roof top pool (you can see all the way to Dragon Bridge from the roof too), extremely kind staff (I was able to check in a bit early, which when you're carrying a lot of luggage really matters). All the rooms have enormous windows so you'll never feel like you're caged in. The cleaners are honest and do a great job, both my friend and I left valuables around and they weren't touched. During my 2 month stay, the Hummer was fully booked regularly (they leave a little sign out, so I knew) and many of the guests are long term and therefore peaceful and quiet. This is an excellent choice to book and I recommend it.

Some of the rooms do face another building. On the side I stayed in, the building is far away, so there's room for light to get in but it's not a pretty view. My friend stayed in a larger room with open views at the front of the building, so if this is important to you it might be worth checking exactly which room you're staying in. At this price point, you can't expect far reaching sea views so it really wasn't a problem. More a tip if you're staying I guess. I always had very fast and reliable wifi in my room, but my friend needed to rely on her phone plan for video calls. There is a lobby downstairs you can work in with fast wifi. Again, more of a tip than a negative.

Location and cleanliness

The shower only had about 5 minutes of hot water, if that, never could do a full shower as a woman, could barely wash all the product out of my hair before the water went cold. The sound proofing is actually really good between other rooms and the road but unfortunately there is a family with a long term rental on floor 5 that had screaming children all day and night and this was horrible. We were there for 20 nights and the screaming was consistent, and I mean full on screaming. Some ants in the rooms, but they’re so small it’s not a huge problem. The bed itself was very comfortable, especially for Vietnamese standards of harder mattresses, but it’d be nice to have more than 1 pillow per person

Hummer is a nice hotel located near the beach and surrounded by cafes, restaurants and opposite a good laundry facility. I really like the rooftop pool, as it has a covered veranda as well as open space to sunbathe - it's clearly cleaned daily. The lobby space is perfect for doing some admin or writing, with lots of natural light through the windows. There is also a kitchen that guests can use to make basic meals like eggs and porridge (I used it for breakfast every morning). The staff are very friendly! The bed was also super comfy.

The WiFi is quite unstable - it regularly disappears, but never for longer than 1 or 2 minutes so it's still OK for tasks as long as you are not doing any video calls. The cleaners come daily but I think they need to refine their mopping technique because they often spread new hairs in the room (clumps of dark hair would sometimes appear after their visit).

The hotel is really good but only after an awkward start. (NO thanks to the poorly run Booking.com who initially had this property as pet friendly but carelessly neglected to inform me that the hotel's pet policy had changed...and they had over a month to advise me!!!) Having proved to reception staff that my small pet dog is clean, parasite free, quiet and toilet trained they allowed me and my dog to check-in, but they did ask for an extra 200,000 dong and held my passport for security until the room was inspected upon departure. A little on the unscrupulous side asking for extra money, when I know that NO special cleaning will be performed when I depart - hotels love to state this special cleaning clause, but when you actually speak to the room cleaners they categorically state that the room is cleaned just like any other room. So, in short, it's all a money grabbing scam enforced onto pet owners. Apart from the "pet policy" incident, the hotel was a pleasure to stay at. After the awkward check-in, I was assisted with my luggage up to my fourth floor assigned room via the elevator (2 are in operation, and they also service the parking lot and rooftop pool area). My air-conditioned room contained a sufficiently comfortable bed with a medium- soft supportive mattress (about 5 out of 10 on the hardness scale), a flatscreen TV (Netflix app is available), a small refrigerator, 2x bedside tables, a wardrobe and some bench/shelf areas, along with a private bathroom. The bathroom boasts a glass partioned shower section with good hot water, though limited by the heating reservoir capacity. Overall, both room and bathroom were very clean and spacious. WiFi is available throughout the property and has a strong and constant signal. The hotel also boasts an underground carpark area with elevator accessibility (but anyone can use these elevators without the need of an access card....which questions their security level??).

Booking.com's inability to advise me that the hotel had changed its pet policy to no pets allowed prior to my arrival. They had ample time to advise me, but they simply didn't....typical and aligned with their useless customer service (actually they have no customer service and repeatedly fail dismally). Some blame should also fall upon the hotel as I did message them weeks in advance, and in that message, I mentioned my pet dog. They simply didn't respond, so it's doubtful they even read my message. Though I'm sure they will deny this fact and try to make me the scapegoat.

Location was great. Close to stores and beach. Staff at reception were outstanding. Room was very comfortable.
