The Elephant & Castle Hotel

Clean, quiet and warm room. Firm and comfortable beds. Free onsite parking. Good spread of breakfast. Located next to a scenic river. We had late dinner at a nearby Bangladesh restaurant which served delicious biryani.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay at the Elephant and Castle Hotel in Newtown for a very special occasion—my brother’s surprise 50th birthday party, which was held in the cocktail lounge. From start to finish, everything was fantastic. A group of us stayed and on arrival we were quickly checked in and given our room details. We did have a small concern initially, as my dad (who uses a walking stick) was allocated a room that would have been quite difficult for him to access. However, when I went back to reception and spoke to Nick, he couldn’t have been more helpful. He immediately moved my dad to a more suitable room, which was actually an upgrade—larger, with a double bed, and much more comfortable for him all at no extra cost. That level of care and understanding really stood out. The party itself was brilliant. The cocktail lounge was a great space, and all of the staff were friendly, attentive, and made the evening really special. Breakfasts were also a highlight—everyone in our group (including my partner, children, brother, and dad) commented on how lovely they were. The rooms were clean, tidy, and comfortable, and the hotel itself is beautiful. Overall, we had a wonderful stay, and the friendliness of the staff really made it. We wouldn’t hesitate to return.
