What not to like. It was beautiful and we asked about the history. Really interesting . Very comfortable and relaxing

I found the mattress very soft which gave me a back ache . The pillows were not good either. Very flat and no extra in the wardrobe.

Beautiful location and interiors. Our room was right next to the library which was a lovely place to sit with some cards and a drink from the bar on the evening. The staff were lovely, and the food from dinner and breakfast was very tasty. Little touches from staff made it feel that it was more of a luxurious stay.

The only thing that put a damper on our evening was that we had rang the hotel prior to coming to book a table, with the market menu. It wasn’t clear on the website whether there was 2 restaurants or just 2 menus. When we were ready for dinner we walked to the restaurant, where there were a lot of spare tables, and advertised as both menus available for the restaurant just outside. However we were then shown to a table which was near the bar, not inside the restaurant. This really felt like just as we were eating with the market menu, we were placed to the back and didn’t have the luxury of sitting in the restaurant. The market menu was not a huge difference in price compared to the main restaurant menu although yes still cheaper, breakfast was served in the restaurant the next day and even when we had finished our meal, the restaurant did still have plenty of spare tables. This did upset us and made us felt like we were not worthy enough to be sat in the restaurant. It’s unfair to advertise two menus and only have one restaurant. Had the restaurant been full we would maybe have understood, but there were not a lot of guests around the hotel the night we stayed.

Thought the spa area could do with a tidy up.

From the moment we saw the building we knew we would enjoy our stay. The staff were always friendly and helpful and the food both at breakfast and when dined in the evening was very tasty. I can only speak for our room, number 8, but it was fantastic and had everything we needed.

My wife did suggest that having a hook on the back of the toilet doors in the communal area for a bag or jacket would have been helpful.
