The Anchor Hotel

This pub/hotel is in a fabulous scenic location on the Solway Firth. The staff are welcoming, the food & drink is great & the log fires in the grate in the pub downstairs are equally welcoming. A lot to like.

I don't think this place should be having guests to stay out of season. The radiator in the room didn't work so the room for my two night stay (in early March) was freezing. But there was an electric heater in the wardrobe, so I could plug it in and get some heat. But I had been told that I was the only resident which made me a little insecure overnight and I had no-one to talk to about the heating.

Food at the anchor was superb staff couldn't do enough and so friendly had a fantastic night's sleep the mattress was so comfy and soft and lovely pillows and fluffy towels and white fresh linen and plenty of tea coffee.. very warm and comfortable lovely restaurant and bar area.

The only thing I would suggest is the shower and some of the furniture could do with an update other than that everything great.

This is an old hotel set in an excellent location. Staff are very friendly and the food is superb. Would definitely return again.

Room was great, staff were so friendly and helpful, a really relaxed atmosphere, food was excellent. We had a lovely time definitely be back.

Shower was poor pressure and bathroom needed updating.

Location with excellent proximity to Urr Water and the Solway Firth. Not far from Dumfries.

Bathroom in room 2 had a small wall heater, but was cold when not standing beneath the heater.

Staff were excellent. Very helpful and proficient. Room was clean. Food was excellent. Beautiful location.

Bed dipped in middle and furniture in room was well past it's best and decor not been done fot a long while which let down an otherwise good experience.

The staff were personable professional and welcoming .

We had a double room, en suite. The view from the bedroom was amazing. Possibly the best view of any hotel we have stayed in. The food in the restaurant exceeded expectations. We stayed three nights and ate in the restaurant every night.

The hot water. Took ages to come through. The shower wasn’t that powerful.
