Morena Boutique Hotel Weligama

Very modern concrete building (we choose it because of it’s simple architecture and because it’s straight along the beach) The breakfast is also different as what you get in a normal hotel: a bowl of smoothie with fresh fruit, granola, chia and coco and toasts with vegetable butter and beetroot marmalade, plus a very good coffee or tea. It’s served on the rooftop with a fantastic view over the ocean. They provide towels for the beach and pool (it’s more like a mini pool to me).

They wrote me on WhatsApp) not on booking) the evening before to let me know that I had to pay cash, otherwise I would have to pay 3% extra by credit card. I had to get money in an ATM to do so… I complained about the non respect about communicating through booking.com only and about the non customer friendly wording they are using.

The hotel has a beautiful view and the decor is very stylish. The beach itself (though not really a swimming beach) is amazing, with gorgeous sand and clear water. The beds are the perfect place to relax.

The breakfast situation is strange - on our first day I didn’t know how to get this and when I asked the reception they told me it was”wouldn’t be ready till 9:30” but after waiting an hour, there was still no sign of it at 10:30. We tried to explain we had plans to go out and wanted to leave, so we’d have taken a refund on the breakfast, but they said it was non refundable and instead we had to wait an additional period of time. We were eventually fed about 11:30 but the food was average, I’d prefer to pay less for the room and have breakfast elsewhere. Equally, the facilities are good, but for the price we paid I was not amazed. As others have pointed out, it needs a bit more TLC to really be classed as a boutique. Lots of potential here but definitely needs a few tweaks to really make this hotel a special place.

The best thing about the Morena were extremely friendly staff and excellent room with a beautiful view and calming sound of waves. The food was also very nice and in general the location was very calm and pleasant.

I do believe it could be little more clean.

We had an amazing stay at Morena Boutique Hotel. The location is unbeatable, right in front of one of Sri Lanka’s best surf spots and next to the beautiful natural pools of Dammala Beach. As someone who loves spending time in the waves, this place was a dream. The hotel has a peaceful, laid-back vibe that’s perfect for slow mornings. Waking up to an ocean view every day, followed by a delicious, fresh, and abundant breakfast, made every morning feel special. Weligama itself is a quiet and charming town, and you’re just 5 minutes from the cool bars and restaurants in Ahangama, and 10 minutes from the energy of Mirissa. The balance between nature, surf, and comfort was just right. What stood out most was the vibe—relaxed, welcoming, and ideal for like-minded travelers. I’d definitely recommend Morena to anyone looking for a soulful, surf-friendly escape in Sri Lanka.

View was the only advantage. Everything else was terrible and not worth a penny. Do not book this place! We booked 4 nights and run away after one terrible night.

Aircondition was not working(it is too small and very very old). It was dark and dirty everywhere in the room. Both Doors are like to the stable- you hear the terrible noice from the road and from the waves. There is no insulation so everything in the room is covered in the salt. Stinky bathroom. Workers are sleeping in the rooms before cleaning which is unacceptable. Food is disgusting, take a look at the kitchen. Owner is Spanish and there is no contact with her. She promised to give us back the money but she didn’t. We paid for 4 nights so much money and slept only one night. Terrible place and terrible experience.

Beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming! The rooms were clean and stylish, the staff were incredibly friendly, and the overall vibe was calm and relaxing. A perfect spot to unwind. Highly recommend!
