Gara Rock

This is a beautiful hotel with amazing views. The staff are super helpful and friendly and the breakfast is fabulous.

It’s a shame there aren’t more loungers around the indoor pool and spa area. It was a wet day on one of our days and the pool area was busy but yet there’s only five loungers for everyone.

Unclean room, loos didn’t flush properly, Alan the manager was horrible, uncomfy beds, small swimming pool that children can only use between 10-5pm. Hotel gave us free breakfast for unclean room but only after a full investigation. Alan refused to admit on the phone there was a problem with the room. I was told we weren’t going to get a refund on the remaining two nights unless a thorough investigation had been done. As Alan was so unpleasant we decided to stay as it meant loosing over £1k. If we could have got our money back we would have left, Alan said as we booked through booking.com we had to go through them, but their advice was to contact the hotel direct. Very long wait in the restaurant for food. You need to drive everywhere or walk for 30-45 mins down very steep hills, parking not great near the ferry point another 20 mins walk from the car park. Really not worth the money I would strongly advise against this hotel.

We loved the relaxed style

Evening meal was very poor and extremely expensive for what it was. Two cod loins with one portion of chips and some leeks worked out at £100 - the meal was very poor. I recommend sticking to the set menu.

The position and layout

No chopping board or tea towels even after asking for them!

The resident accommodation worked really well for our family, plenty of space and great to have multiple rooms so we could put our LO to bed and relax in the lounge. The setting of the hotel is also stunning!

Although beautiful, the location was tricky, the country roads are extremely tight on approach to the hotel and for at least a 15 min driving radius around the hotel which did make driving anywhere stressful. The hotel is also remote, it's not really possible to pop out somewhere local for dinner, the closest supermarket was about a 40 min drive away and despite a Salcome address it's about a 45 min drive to town.
