"Love this place!"

9.0

I loved, loved this place. It was easy to get to know and make friends with fellow travelers. The basic and simple structures, with window screens, instead of glass windows and plenty of shade trees made it easier to enjoy the natural setting than my sister's place at a nearby resort with air conditioning and a pool, with no shade trees. I loved watching the herons fishing in front of the rooms in the early morning light, and snorkeling in front of my room. I loved seeing the roosters wander about.I loved not needing to wear shoes all week. I loved skipping down the beach barefoot to a restaurant at a fancy resort to eat dinner on the beach. The outdoor shower and bathrooms added to the island charm. This place is more like glamping than a resort, so its not for everyone, but its fabulous for those who want to breathe fresh air, hear the wind and waves while they sleep at night, and enjoy the island the old fashioned way.

Please tell the roosters to sleep in a bit longer!

We absolutely loved our stay at Matriki! Although we spent four nights there, it felt far too short. Matthias is an exceptional host, full of fascinating knowledge about Aitutaki and its history, making every conversation insightful. We also joined his boat tour around the lagoon, which was truly unforgettable. Unlike other tour companies, Matthias takes his time, ensuring you can fully relax and enjoy the experience without ever feeling rushed.

"It was a fun place to stay if you're looking for economical glamping, without modern luxuries."

9.0

I liked the entire experience! The location can't be beat for walking from your front porch to the beach for snorkeling or paddle boarding. The huts were in the trees so the rooms stayed cooler from the shade, although there is a fan if it does get too hot (no AC). Each hut has its own kitchenette with dishes/pots/pans, and private outdoor shower. Bikes, paddleboards and snorkel gear were available to use for free. It was a lovely place to sit on the beach, chat with your hut neighbors, and watch the roosters pecking in the sand, and the herons and cats fishing! Matthias offers a snorkeling tour, even going beyond the reef. We had spectacular sea-life sightings on his tour! He also kindly brought us mangoes and bananas!

The rugs felt a bit dank, but I'm not sure that could be helped without having heating/air conditioning? The free bikes, paddleboards and snorkel gear have seen sunnier days, but it's great they are available since there's few, if any, places to rent such gear. I was happy for the use of snorkel fins since mine couldn't fit into my luggage.

"Great stay with Matthias and Keegan. Very interesting people and always happy to help. Would like to stay for a bit long"

On the edge of the beach with a view looking at the beach. The lagoon cruise was really good, Matthias is very knowledgeable and he says it how it is!

Smaller than it looked in the photos, but we got used to that. Little more attention needed in some areas.

"Basic stay. Yes, would stay again. Cheapest but still overpriced."

8.0

Right on the beach. Quiet. Bicycles and SUP and no charge.

Ok if you’re fine with shared outhouse for beach cabins. No view in garden unit, but has private bathroom and way too soft of a bed. Overall, very basic which is fine for me. I thought it a bit overpriced, but everything in the Cooks is overpriced…

"Place needs updated. I have pics of the property condition. Should have figured something, the last reviews were from"

Pics on line do not reflect the property. My fault, I miss the fact there were outhouse’s, no toilets in the room.

I liked the beach access, I enjoyed walks along the beach. The room was clean.

There were a few things that could have been better. Although use of bikes was free, the bikes were sketchy. My hut had a shower but no toilet, and access to the shower was downstairs and not private. The hut is more like 'glamping', with no noise isolation. That would be ok if huts were not so close to each other, but I could hear every footstep and cutlery scrape of the guests staying near me.

The free bike use was fantastic, and definitely made up for being 2kms out of the main strip. 2 main restaurants were within walking distance right next door which was convenient
