We stayed December 2024, great hospitality from the start, clean and homely, we were a bit stranded at the airport and what do you know we were picked up, a car was organised to hire - convertable it was too .... beautiful beach, we loved our stay and a beautiful family stayed right next to us ..... one downfall was the distance to the toilet haha 😄 no worries still got there, thank you so much for the stay, will come again ..... "Magical"

10.0

Simple, basic accommodation. We had our own shower and shared the garden toilet with other guests. Basic camping-style kitchen but with everything we needed especially a small fridge. It was perfectly comfortable for our needs. No air-con but a standing fan. I find the aircon makes it difficult to acclimatise. We had a small balcony and mainly ate out there. All of that was overshadowed by the spectacular beach and it was amazing to just walk out straight into azure, turquoise water that lapped less than 30 meters away from our door. We had all kinds of weather in our 10 days, wind, rain, sun...but we swam daily, 2, 3, 4 times a day! We didn't cook much. We bought local food from a local shop and ate out at small cafes and with local friends. We had bought some packet food that we reheated on the cooker which was quite adequate. We packed a couple of desk fans and these worked really well...one fan per person is good, I think. If we went again, I would take a short extension cord. The lighting in the hut wasn't great and there was nothing on the balcony, so we bought some candles for out there and it was all good. One night we had a bonfire that had been set up and another night we had a BBQ using the small gas set up. There are several flash hotels within walking distance, and we had facials and massages from some experts! The great thing about Matriki was the location to beach and everything else you might want. Mattheus can take you out to the rest of the lagoon if you want and there are paddleboards and snorkels which we occasionally used. We also rented the motorbikes inhouse which made things very easy. We would like to bring our young grandchildren next time and we will come back here.

To be honest, we didn't like the name and ended up calling it Matariki...seemed better. Nah, nothing much bad to say cause our holiday was spectacular...

Location on the beach. Tour with host Matthias is excellent

Cheap and cheerful, a bit more TLC would go a long way

"Just perfect!"

10.0

Location is great. Huts are simple but well equipped and comfortable. We were getting free fruits daily, coconuts too. (Yum!) It is possible to hire a scooter or just borrow a bicycle; paddling board too. The owner organised a boat/snorkelling trip, which I can highly recommend. The trip was excellent, whole day trip around lagoon and outside lagoon with many excellent snorkelling spots. Would I stay at Matriki Huts again? Definitely.

"Location great but wouldn't stay here again - owner very friendly."

6.0

The property is directly on the beach so literally wake up and go outside for a swim or walk. Very quiet and great locatioin.

Expectations of the size if the room - it was very small considering there was a kitchen, bathroom, double bed and single pull-down bed. No air-conditioning and very humid environment. A lot of mosquitos so it had a net over the beds.

"Cheap, Rustic Beachfront Accommodations on Superb Lagoon"

7.0

I was met and dropped off at the airport ($10 fee each way). Bed was large and comfortable with good mosquito netting. Bikes were free for your use. Best snorkeling on the island (and the best I've done in a while) was right in front of the property - much better than you will get on any of the lagoon cruises. Small fridge worked. Internet was $5 for the week and reasonably fast and stable. I had the Garden Unit, the only unit with a private ensuite bath which for me is a must have. Excellent restaurants within easy walking distance. Day spa next door. Fire pit on the beach. I did not stay in the beachfront huts as they do not have an ensuite bath, but they appeared to have great sea breezes and views with nice porches.

Please judge these comments knowing that I understood this would be rustic beach huts and I've traveled at a lot of different levels of comfort. I fully expected some bugs and mildew and was not disappointed. Unfortunately, the downside of the Garden unit is that it is back from the beach and tucked against the owners unit, you get a private bath but the mosquitos are fierce and you get very little of the sea breeze. Outside seating was unusable due to mosquitos. The mosquito netting for the bed was great and stayed down all the time - however, that left little room in the unit. The unit gets uncomfortably hot and humid and the single floor fan does not help much. Water pressure in the shower was almost nonexistent, a gravity fed dribble. Weird and unsafe stove setup, a propane camp stove inside with no ventilation. I ate every meal out. Not a place for people who aren't used to roughing it in undeveloped places.
