PIAS POPPIES HOTEL

After reading some previous guests’ comments, I was still unsure what to expect from our three night stay when we arrived. Overall, it was an extremely positive experience. It’s a unique, very atmospheric property in the middle of town. The staff were nice and the food was tasty. The gardens are lovely to relax in with a beer after a long day exploring.

Now for the ‘buts’: - Wi-Fi only works in the reception area. - Food takes a long time to arrive. Not great if others are ordering at a similar time. To get around this, the hack is to pre-order in advance and tell them what time you want it. - Our toilet broke twice. Quickly fixed but still inconvenient. - Although the temperature drops a bit overnight, it’s still far too hot in a room without AC or a fan. No conducive to a good night’s sleep. - It seems the biggest complaint, the lack of hot water, is indeed an issue. Out of six showers, two were warm (but not hot), three cold and one lukewarm. We had to ask staff twice to sort it out.

Frequent forgetfulness on meal orders

A nice homestay in the main street of Rantempao. Walking distance from the city center. Big spaces, super super kind hosts, always with a smile and good mood. Local food at good prices, different breakfast options and good portions.

It can be a bit noisy sometimes in certain rooms early in the morning.

The setting of this guesthouse is beautiful, no doubt. The location is not bad, though it requires a 15-minute walk to what I would call the center. It's 2 minutes from KFC, if that's a comfort. Lots of tourists - all the rooms seem to be occupied. The room itself is spacious. They refunded me for the 4th night which was reserved and paid for, but I wanted to leave a night earlier - that was highly appreciated.

There's lots to complain about, I'm afraid. Start with the world's worst sink - for that alone I wouldn't stay there. It is as if they really don't care about customers: a spray of water from a super low faucet, you have to use it to believe it. super naked room - no facilities, no airconditioner, no wifi in the room, no hot water in 2 of the 3 nights that we needed them. Breakfast is on extra pay which is fine - but it isn't good value and takes over 30 minutes to be served. The reception doesn't seem to care much if you're happy, and don't count on them to fix you up with a local guide or advise you regarding funerals and rituals - it's not their thing, accommodation only. On top of that, it's noisy - whether it's the roosters at sunrise or the noise from the road, you are guaranteed to be woken up early. All that said, bear in mind that this is a cheap place to stay so don't expect too much to begin with. If you're over 40 years old, avoid it :-)

The location was good, the rooms were spacious and clean. The staff were kind and helpful.

No hot water, shower pressure not great. No wifi in the rooms. I was disappointed by the food considering the good reviews I had read - I had an overcooked fish one night, and my friend had a rendang that also wasn't great. I live in Indonesia and love the food, but didn't find this good at all. On booking.com it also states that there is a spa and wellness centre, which is not true.
