Macdonald Highlands Hotel at Macdonald Aviemore Resort

Trying to find the hotel, I never realised there was three in the Aviemore resort.

Breakfast was excellent

We didn't eat in the restaurant so I can't comment. Essentially we used the hotel as a base for cycling and kayaking and it was fine for that

Great location and site. Most staff were friendly and helpful.

The bed was filthy and the mattress protector covered in lots of hairs and stains. I was moved to another room but it was similar, although not as bad. Upon checkout, the member of staff at reception said the manager would contact me about my complaint but they have not, despite me sending two emails. Out of the hotel’s control, my first room was also in a part of the building where a large group of noisy people were staying and it was very disruptive.

No room service unless specifically requested. Default is no service. Lazy housekeeping .

It was OK, but very underwhelming. The staff were helpful and bed was comfortable. Location good for exploring the area.

The hotel has a confusing layout as does the whole Macdonald Aviemore Resort and signage is poor. It is very tired, dated and definitely not a 4*hotel or value for money. Simply things lacking like no easy way to contact reception other than going there or calling using your own phone; "awaiting delivery" of biscuits etc, no non slip bathmats available although advised to ask for them. Very noisy from other rooms and the corridor, banging doors all night. Breakfast was passable, nothing special and definitely nothing Scottish about it other than potato scones! No haggis or black pudding. It felt like we could have been anywhere in the UK and the hotel did not live up to our expectations.

Excellent location and facilities were very good. Food and the service probidef was excellent.
