The George Hotel of Stamford

Location and building beautiful and the staff / service excellent.

There is a lot of noise from other occupied rooms which because of it being an old building means it can disturb sleep.

The staff were exceptional and the food was very very good. All members of staff were so friendly and helpful and welcoming. We had a private lunch (very very good - beef was rare not medium-rare, and several guests did not eat what was (generously) given them. Hotel areas were pretty clean - just a few stains on carpets and the corners of our bedroom/bathroom slightly less so. The AC in the room was very quiet.

There was insufficient glazing over our bedroom windows. The road noise was ghastly. Our bedroom was vastly over-priced considering other options in the area. The bed was not comfortable (concave mattress) and it took major wrenching to pull the sheet/blanket up and to yank up the bedcover sufficiently for extra warmth. There were multiple light source intrusions - speaker, telly, aircon, under the door, beside the curtains. All could have been better managed. The television was small and the bedframe blocked the view of it. The room was tired - multiple paint chips and poor quality of fixings - wobbly table, drawers that didn’t run smoothly; shower rose that sprayed in multiple weird directions (that I couldn’t fix with a finger descale).
