Marakolliya Beach Resort

The pool is really big. The beach is also nice, but you can’t swim in the hotel area.

At the checkin we were informed that hotel organizes huge New Year’s Eve party. Nobody has informed us in advance. If we knew, we would never stay there. The party was till 5AM, it was impossible to sleep. Even the hotel lobby changed into party place, people smoking at the stairs. 🤡☠️ Room wasn’t cleaned well and it wasn’t comfortable at all. At the balcony there are ACs - so dirty (photos). 🤢We changed the hotel after one night. Breakfast was the worst we ever had. Hotel isn’t worth the price, we stayed in much better hotels for the same price or slightly higher. I don’t recommend.

A bit expensive, not much for breakfast

Excellent hotel! Convenience, comfort, cleanliness. The most beautiful beach I have ever been to. The service was very friendly and resolved every request immediately. Wi-Fi available on the whole area, when I reported the problem once, it was immediately resolved. The food is delicious. Prices same as anywhere else. Lovely dogs very happy to see you. I can honestly say that this was the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

The hotel is paired with its immediate neighbour next door, under the same ownership. They operate as one complex, sharing facilities. The one unit has the reception, main restaurant and chalet rooms next to the beach. The other is a characterless hotel building with a pleasant pool separating it from the beach. We were offered the choice. Prices were the same. For us it was a no-brainer. The location of the chalets is great. The beach is very pleasant but swimming was definitely not safe. Maybe it was a bad couple of days, or the wrong time of year. We were not over-impressed with the restaurant, which was also quite pricey.

Nothing more to add.

- The hotel is located on the very shore of the ocean. - A large swimming pool. - The grounds, the hotel and the room were clean. - The building and the room where we lived are quite new. - We were given a better room than we had booked. - A pleasant tuk-tuk driver, which was ordered for us at the reception. - Note: Google Maps shows very few restaurants around, but in fact there are many cozy, cute restaurants and cafes within walking distance.

- The personal was very slow, almost no one understood English. - There were a lot of dogs on the territory, which inconvenienced us by trying to steal food straight from the plates, and the staff did not even react. - The prices in the hotel restaurant are quite high. - there is no safe, TV, electric kettle and tea/coffee in the room (this is not a claim: this is a two-star hotel and there are no such facilities in the description, but just keep this in mind).

No kettle inside rooms. Can't charge or use any electric item, the reason is all the switch socket outlets are not in standard design, not even matching with sri lanka use switches.. horrible, they have given hair DRYER but for that also not supply with at least universal socket. So worst. Soap shampoo given in the bathroom,not written any thing can not recognize what it is weather shampoo, cream, body wash or conditioners

This brand new hotel is a spin-off of the longstanding Ganesh Garden Beach Cabanas that's just beside and it seems as if it's tought to accommodate the customers who like an hotel room better than a cabana. The sea-view room where we have been was perfectly clean and full furnished with a minimalist touch. Down in the hall there's a snooker table and the bar and, in the short distance between the hotel building and the ocean, a beautiful and big sized "infinity" swimming pool with a second bar, this one directly at water level. The staff is very kind and friendly but always respectful of one's own privacy. If we will happen to come back in Tangalle we'll definitely be happy to spend some more days here.

It's a little far from the town but this also makes it a peaceful and silent location, that it's often not the case with other accommodations nearer to the central area. Anyway tuk tuks are always easily available. Also, in all Tangalle, swimming in the sea can often be dangerous, due to strong currents. But the hotel's swimming pool compensate this very well

The pool is really nice as is the access to the beach.

When we arrived we were told to leave our luggage and follow a woman who would show us the facility. Well, the woman barely spoke to us and walked into a Beach Restaurant of Ganesh Gardens and started talking to some people there and ignored us. After some time we realized we had to wait there for something and sat down. After a few more minutes we were given a nice welcome juice and someone explained that there is breakfast at the restaurant. At this time I realized, that Ganesh Gardens and Marakolliya Beach must work together. After that, the woman walked us to our room without any further comments, but which turned out to be the wrong room. The manager then showed us our actual room and as I asked him about my luggage, which probably stood at the entrance for the last half an hour he said it would arrive soon (it arrived about 20min) later. The room was nicely designed but not really in good shape. The bathroom sink was leaking and pretty soon there was a puddle in the bathroom. Everything was cleaned, just not really good. The toilet was not so firm in place and wobbled worrying when you had to turn around for toilet paper because there wasn't a holder for the paper. All in all the room was nice, but seemed badly managed. The same was for the breakfast buffet we received in Ganesh Gardens. To be honest, it was the worst breakfast I had in my time in Sri Lanka, coincidentally in my most expensive accommodation.
