"History, Ambience, Style, Hospitality."

10.0

Situated almost at the top of the town of Trujillo, Casa de Orellana is a delight in every respect. It's not often one gets to stay in a 500+ year old building and even less common to find a boutique hotel so well decorated. A great base from which to explore Trujillo, but my recommendation is to enjoy the ambience of the courtyard, with the assistance of some of the brilliant local red wine from one of several delicatessens located less than five minutes from the hotel. Our host could not have been more helpful, including escorting us in and out of the town.

"We had a wonderful stay and would certainly return"

10.0

The location is perfect in the old town. It’s a lovely historic property with bags of character. The “suite” is a lovely room with direct access to the wonderful garden and small swimming pool. The owner, Werner, is delightful and even comes to meet you in his car to direct you to the property.

"Peaceful haven"

10.0

Orellana who was born in this house discovered the Amazon. You will get the same sense of achievement if you find this tucked away hotel. Tastefully furnished in Spanish "heavy" style the main rooms are a delight but best of all, all the bedrooms give onto the walled garden with delightful pool and surround.

"Such a lovely place"

10.0

Fantastic from start to finish. We were the only guests so had the pool exclusively to our needs, which meant a midnight swim was not a problem. Absolute bliss. The owner was a delight as was the whole package. Can’t emir to return very soon.

"Good things and not so good things"

6.0

It's hard to review this hotel after so many excellent reviews as in some ways it did not live up to our expectations. We stayed for 4 nights as part of a tour of the Madrid area. It's probably easiest to list pros and cons... Pros: Hotel is in a lovely situation right in the old town with a short but steep walk to the square and various restaurants. Because it is only 5 rooms you sometimes have the place to yourselves. As mentioned in previous reviews there is no manager on site and you are given a key to come and go as you please. The pool is small but lovely and is a very pleasant place to relax after a day sightseeing. Cons: We were told that breakfast is served at 9.15 and there didn't appear to be much flexibility in this. It wasn't a problem for us, but had we wanted to make an early start any day, I'm not sure what would have happened. Breakfast choice is very limited. Had we been only staying for 1 or 2 nights, this would have been fine, but it became very repetitive over 4 nights. Just the addition of some fresh fruit would have been nice. In summary I would recommend this hotel for a 1 or 2 night stay.

"Amazing historic Manor House in centre of old town"

10.0

We had booked a room next door at the Palacio de Chaves but were let down on arrival as the room did not have a terrace or any outside space. Fortunately the Casa de Orellana did have a spare room which turned out to be far superior and an incredible place to stay with spacious room, beautiful furnishings, and lovely garden with pool. Werner and Jose were great hosts and we wish we could have stayed for much longer.

"Extremaduran paradise "

This really is a gem from start to finish. The hotel itself is a beautiful historic building and the internal decor is filled with endless antique furniture and beautiful maps and paintings. It is a point of particular historic interest as the house in which Orellana was born. The hotel is well run. There are 5 rooms so there is an added personal touch. It is located in the historic centre and Jose came to meet us and lead us there as it is tricky to manoeuvre down the tiny cobbled roads. We were given a tour of the available rooms (all of which are unique and beautiful) and were then treated to a cold beer in a beautiful courtyard. Two other important points to mention. First is the pool. This is an absolutely amazing plus. Natural 'dipping' pool which we relied on entirely as it was a very hot stay. The pool is in the beautiful courtyard at the back of the hotel with the church of Santa Maria looming up above you as well as several palm trees and surrounded by an ancient wall. Dreamy. Secondly the breakfast was really lovely. Fresh orange juice and GOOD coffee. Jamon iberico, tomatoes, fresh bread and an assortment of cakes and biscuits and yoghurts (perfect). Half the rooms open out onto the garden. We stayed in Ana D'Ayala and it was very comfortable, light room with excellent air conditioning and great shower. Mini bar very cheap. This stay was truest memorable, luxurious and to top it off is located in an absolutely amazing place. I will remember getting lost in the cobbled streets for a long time and cannot wait to come back. P.s amazing friendly and helpful staff. Big thanks to Jose and Werner.

"House hotel with provenance"

8.0

This is more of an historic home, rather than a hotel. It is the birth place of Spanish conquistador Francesco de Orellana, who discovered the Amazon about 500 years ago. Not much has changed in this medieval walled hamlet. The town, moorish fort, and church tower are fun to explore. This place feels authentic and not on the tourist circuit. The hotel is a bit hard to find and on a tiny road that becomes a stairway. We were greeted enthusiastically by the property manager, Werner, who toured us around the house and gardens (with a small pool surrounded by lush plantings). We had the place to ourselves (there are only 5 rooms) and we enjoyed sitting by the pool after a hot afternoon of touring the sites. Our room was comfortable and colorfully decorated; bathroom and amenities fine too. This is not a classic hotel with services, but more of an adventure travel locale.

"Historic place"

8.0

The casa is beautiful and centrally located in the old center of Trujillo. By the way Trujillo is a very old and nice town. I did liked it more than caceres. The casa has a litlle swimmingpool. I have read reviews that said that it was difficult to get there. But if you have a normal navigation, you can drive directly to the casa. The rooms are very "old fashioned" , not really mine style but it's a historic building so it fits. Only the breakfast can be really better for the price you pay.
