"Horrible and unsafe place"

2.0

This is one of the worst experiences I had in hotels. The hotel is located on one of the busy streets of this small town, so do not expect to sleep with open windows -the traffic noise is horrid, even with closed windows, as two major bus stops are in front. Also, the warning tone of the traffic light (a constrant tacking beep) can be heard all night long. The hotel facility could be quite charming, with a German-old-style restaurant (which is not open in ther Summer as a sign says at the entrance) and very close to the old city entrance. But the entire set-up is too basic and run very carelessly but the management, as: -There is not one single airconditioner or ventilator in the building. Sticky air all Summer long, rooms impossible to let fresh air in (small window) and sunshine all day long into the building front. Impossible to sleep. - There is nobody to run the hotel and be there for the guests. One lady is there and she does all jobs: checking guests in and out, attending the bar, preparing drinks, serving drinks all across the hotel (the beer terrace is open and the same lady has to carry the drinks to another floor far away from the restaurant), probably preparing snacks and cleaning up. I have rarely seen such an abuse of human resources -actually non existing human resources. It is insane to let one person run the entire place. -The hotel is a completely unsafe place, there is no control who accesses the building. During the day, all doors are open with nobody watching (the mentioned lady can't, she has to serve drinks and do all other duties). During my stay, on the first floor there was a 'beer coupon sales desk' for the large folk festival that weekend -lovely service for beer lovers, but making about a hundred people walking in and out. The hotel staff (the lady again) leaves at 20h00 and access is through a key card panel at the back door. Dark and unsafe area, anybody can rob you or slip in with you. I rarely felt that unsafe in a hotel. -To add insult to the lack of safety of the hotel, I returned on the second day of my stay to my room and found the room door WIDE OPEN. The cleaning staff left it open after they cleaned in the morning and at 21h it was still open. Laptop, tablet, all belongings available for anyone to take. There is nobody to see and complain (again the lady and she is gone). After battery-lamp assisted search of the different papers glued on the back entrance door, I found a mini-printed emergency number and called. Somebody answered and listened to my complaint about he open door and said 'well, we run another hotel in the city, and that's more important now'. The person promised to investigate among ther staff (the lady I assume) and to inform me what happened -I of course never heard from him again. To my luck, all other occupants of the hotel were obviously honest people and nothing was taken from my room. I guess I was lucky. - There is no check-out (the lady serves beer again and on Sunday there is nobody there anyway) and I left after waiting for 10 minutes by leaving the key card on the beer counter and with the intention to call later for invoice and payment. I found out that there is no need for that, as they charged already my credit card without my approval the day before. At least they know how to take money. Conclusion: avoid this hotel. It is an insult to guests and abuse of hospitality in this lovely region, where hotel and pension hosts go out of their way to help you and guide you. The owners of this hotel don't care. I left angry and insulted (carelessly treating the property and valuables of your guests and playing with personal safety IS an insult) and will never return again to this hotel (certainly not) and to Ravensburg to overnight (they run another hotel in town, and I don't want to take even the chance to be 'hosted' by same owners). As you can see in my reviews, I am always willing to give hotels and particularly people a second and even a third chance -as long as the attitude and kindness are right. In Hotel Storchen, nothing is right. It's a wrong place to stay. Avoid.

Only plus were the staff. Very friendly. Basic rooms two hangers on a rack no kettle free Wi-Fi usless on the 3rd floor. Sub standard breakfast same food left for 2nd morning cheese drying out at the edges. Hopefully will not have to use this hotel again.

"Stark, sparse, utilitarian with no hint of luxury or warmth"

6.0

Spartan in a sense of minimalistic decors & stark white color with minimum furnishing reminiscent of clinical sterility. But comfortable,  with acceptable bed. Shower, bathroom very small but efficient & clean Pros: clean, efficient small rooms, common in this category, good breakfast overall, cleanly efficiently, & elegantly  presented in cute containers. Looks initially sparse due to very large table where the food is displayed but it certainly has all of the common International breakfast items.  Perhaps using a smaller tight sections of the two walled buffet table may give sense of plenty, Good service albeit slow, one person. Coffee/tea self service may make things more efficient in busy mornings. Pricing high, could be lower considering some of the quirks & its location. Cons: no elevators, not disabilities friendly, unfriendly decor, eggs overcooked, room small, bathroom very small with shower door not completely sealing & water leaking to the floor slightly, stark white color of the entire room, bathroom, fixture could use softening with artistically applied borders or accent bands in colors or patterns, breaking large stark white block of color.

"OK stop over, not very inspiring!"

6.0

I booked this hotel before looking at the tripadvisor reviews -silly me! To be fair the hotel does cover the basics, there is a bed, and shower and the place is reasonably clean. It is also centrally located, which is good if you have time to explore the town. However it is in rather a need of refreshment -the interior looks very dated (1970's?), though at least the bathrooms have been renovated. Room itself is rather dingy, and the traffic noise could be quite irritating for light-sleepers. Parking was also not easy to find -in the end I parked in the local public car park (luckily only €8 over night). Probable a place to consider for a quick stop over, but would give it a miss if you need to stay longer.
