Everything Closed at ten o clock on a Saturday seemed very strange Room very cold with no way of heating up heating system turned off

Lovely building, great food and close to all amenities that we needed and close to family who we were visiting for the duration of our stay. Great prices on food & drink.

Nothing really, we will be happy to book and stay again. The only slight disappointment was the room we had was very nice but the view at the rear of the property from our room is a little oppressive facing large ventilation pipes and the waste area. And the bed lovely thick mattress but sadly was too firm for myself and my husband though we do have spinal problems, we couldn’t really sleep comfortably as the bed felt more like a stiff board. But it has not put us off staying again in future. Staff were extremely friendly and the carvery amazing taste and prices and never disappointing.

We booked one night purely for convenience — we had a party in Birmingham and didn’t want to face the drive back to London late at night. Simple plan: check in, sleep, leave refreshed. We arrived around midnight and checked in without any issues. That’s where the positives end. From around 4am, noise from outside began filtering through — not ideal, but manageable. What wasn’t manageable was what followed. At 7am sharp, a beer barrel delivery started directly outside. Loud, relentless clanging and banging continued as barrels were rolled and stacked, followed by what sounded like furniture or stock being moved around. The racket didn’t stop until 8:15am. Over an hour of heavy, uninterrupted noise — right outside guest rooms, on a Sunday morning, starting at 7am. There was no warning about this at check-in, no attempt to manage the noise, and no consideration whatsoever for paying guests trying to sleep. I genuinely cannot justify more than one star, and even that feels generous. If you’re staying here for a proper night’s rest, be warned: this is a working pub first, a hotel second — and guests’ sleep is clearly not a priority. Would not return. Would not recommend for overnight stays.
