Location and price.

Standard of decor leaves a lot to be desired. Missing light bulb in light above bed. Bathroom door handle loose.

The building had a faded charm. The staff were friendly and welcoming. They were helpful too. It was very central to Castle and Cathedral and all amenities as it was right on the high street.

But it was also right next to a club! We asked to be able to change room. We were fortunate to catch a member of staff before they went off duty and they were extremely accommodating and moved us to a quieter part of the hotel. It does need a little tlc.

Arrived at 5pm, in room 14, couldnt hear myself think due to being right above lady lounge bar, whose speakers bass could get any deeper. Room clean but had wall paper fallen off the wall, cracks in windows and coyld really do with some decorating paint cracking and peeling throughout. Finally after a lobely night out i had 3 keys to get back into the property. The first was access via door in large gates, which i failed to see didnt open all the way down, so stepped forward, tripping on the section of door that didnt open and falling straight through onto the ground. Ive really hurt my wrist trying to break the fall, thinking i may need to get this checked out. Very noisy building as in can hear everything through the walls, ironically as couldnt hear anything over the loud music earlier. To be honest i was very disappointed, especially as a couple of months back i stayed at the travelodge near the station and which was alot better for money. In the morning no one was at reception at 9am to discuss my fall and put in the accident book perhaps. Im sure many had a great stay and perhaps never had any experiences i had but just expected a bit better as the website shows some great pics of types of rooms on offer. Perhaps just unlucky this time!

I arrived and was greeted by two very polite members of staff, who explained the process of getting back into the hotel after hours.

Not alot.

Could only checkin between 13:00 & 20:00 Charged an additional £20 to checkin outside those times but still not at the time I required. When I did arrange a time got called 30mins later to sat that still wasn't convenient. When I got there my room still wasn't ready despite arranging the early chrckin 2 days before. Did give me the key and took my bag but still charged me £20 for the "early checkin".

The location is great, we had a beautiful view of the Cathedral from our room that we loved, the beds were comfortable and there was lots of room to move around. The lady that checked us in was very helpful and nice.

The floor dipped in parts and it generally didn't look the cleanest as it was so old, but it was clean. The bathrooms need an update, I couldn't get the shower to work and had to get a friend to help me, the shower then was either so hot it burnt or so cold is was unbearable - maybe a little look at these would be good. Overall, the stay was good value for money, in a great area and good staff. Would just recommend a little refurb of some areas.
