"The 1970s called, they want their room back."

5.0

Friendly helpful staff, nice welcome and basically comfortable, in a fairly good location an easy walk from town centre.

Poor/no soundproofing, very little natural light in my attic-conversion room where a postage-stamp sized window looked onto a wall 2 feet from it, and while the room was clean and the bed comfy, there was a suspicious if small "washed it twice and it still hasn't shifted" red/brown stain on the duvet cover and the furniture was the type your granny had in her spare room when you visited as a kid - and even then only if that was as long ago as it was for me! There's one of those comedy showers that goes from scalding to freezing with nothing in between. And when the man who checks you in (who, I want to stress again, was friendly and helpful), has to give a short talk with test to follow, on the subject of how the room door locks work, it's a pretty good indication of a place in real need of a bit of investment to bring it up to a proper modern standard. All of which makes it a bit annoying that the next 2 days on the same trip I payed less per night for a superb room at the nearby 3-star Wolverhampton Novotel.

"Lovely hotel and staff"

10.0

Early check in, Upgraded to a family room from a single, very spacious, Lovely staff, good size bathroom, bed was comfortable, short walk to Bottom Cliff Railway, found a hidden gem in the antique centre called Natasha's Tearoom. Breakfast was served on hot plate, good soundproof floors, hotel had loads of character, beautiful garden, very quiet area.

Bath was too high to climb in, to use shower, floors were squeaky ( can't be helped), door was a pain to lock, busy car park,

"Only stayed there for one night, but from that, I would certainly stay there again."

9.0

The inside of the hotel is very nicely decorated and in particular, L must mention the bedroom and bar area. The hotel is clearly well cared for and I would certainly recommend it. Convenient for anyone visiting the Severn Valley Railway. Bed very comfortable.

From a personal point of view, I would have preferred a shower rather than a bath, but that is due to my mobility issues. That is not the fault of the hotel.
