"Good ski in/out location next to the Edelweiss chair lift"

8.0

Good atmosphere and not too big. Popular Apre bar with excellent music. Loud and smoke filled but good fun ! Management and staff very helpful. Baggage and ski pick up provided by the Hotels own ski mobile service. Nice breakfast service with a choice of cooked eggs and no waiting. Evening food , more suited to Dussledorf taste buds rather than Manchester, but not a problem to our ageing English team! Would like to go back sometime soon.

"Terrible food and incredibly arrogant and unfriednly staff and management"

2.0

We went for lunch in the Austria hotel and will certainly never ever make this mistake again. The so called "Austria burger" was so bad that it beggars all description. I do not want to know what kind of meat the chef hid in it. In addition, while we ordered explicitly "2 burgers", both were brought (and later charged) with fries. It is quite a significant difference in price which we had not noticed (more than 3 euros for the fries) so make sure you order and you get what you want, although I would definitely discourage everyone from ordering the Austria burger in general. While the taste of food might be subjective the actual problem and reason for me writing this review is the incredibly unfriendly and arrogant reaction of one particular waiter and subsequently her management. Rather than to say "we are sorry" and all would be good they started teaching us in an unbelievebly lordly way how a client has to behave.

"Great spot for ski in ski out"

8.0

We have stopped here to eat and drink mid ski many times over the years but never stayed here before this year. The place is under new ownership and has had a little updating done to it. It's a great spot to ski from you literally exit the ski/ boot room into the Edelweiss lift. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. We stayed BnB but ate at the hotel on a couple of lunch times and a la carte a couple of evenings. We all thought that the food was great. The bedrooms are fairly standard Austria Ski pension rooms - fairly basic and a little tired but perfectly adequate, cleaned every day and with a decent shower and new god sized TV (not sure what else you would want to be fair). WE WILL DEFINITELY BE GOING AGAIN.

"Welcome and friendly"

8.0

Due to the amount of new snow fall our transfer coach could not get as close has it would normally have done but the driver rang the hotel and they sent a skidoo over the help collect the luggage, taking it across to the Hotel. The hotel is situated right on the piste and along side one of the many ski lifts in the resort so watch out for the speed merchants flying past. The maps do not make it totally clear but you cannot get right to the front door at any time, but the hotel will help fetch your baggage in any case. A friendly welcome and awaited us has we checked in and a porter help carry baggage up to our rooms, which had a shared balcony overlooking the slope. The rooms were clean and well presented with daily maid service and always cleaned whilst at breakfast. Breakfast buffet was the norm and provided a fair choice. If you did not see what you wanted it appeared to be a case of ask and it would be provided. Evening meals were generally chosen at breakfast from a choice of 3 main courses and a child option. Annexed to the hotel is a bar which provided apre ski drinks but did not disturb our evenings. Sauna and infa red heat cabin with relaxation rooms provide for the easing of aches and stress. The boot / ski stall exits straight to the Eidel Weis Lift to get you straight on the slope. A trip into the village is not that easy involving a fair uphill walk. The hotel appear to have an arrangement with certainly some of the ski hire shops and a phone call gets a taxi or skidoo to big you up. The hire shop also collected skiis at the end of the week. Would I stay again? Yes.

"Please don't ruin your holiday."

2.0

We have visited Austria for 20 years, maybe 30 visits and must recognize the real professional approach everywhere. Food is quite predictable but one thing stands out- you can always rely on a good standard. At least that's what we thought until we ate here. I won't elaborate- the person who prepared our food should be fired!!! I asked the waiter to bring one piece of meat back to the chef who had cooked it & ask him to eat it!! The response was three replacement pieces which were perfect. Made the situation even worse- this person could do it properly but in some cases obviously doesn't care!! My wife's dish was also dry, tasteless & thrown together. It's rare nowadays to get meals so bad anywhere. Give this place a very wide miss!!!

"Fantastic!"

10.0

My husband, two daughters (7 and 5) and I are just at the end of a fantastic week here (last week in March). I was not so sure about the location at first. It appears very central, but what I hadn't realised from Google Maps is that the hotel and the few others around it (Wismeyerhaus; Ullis FeWo; Haus Vinzenz etc) are quite a bit downhill from the centre of town. This wasn't ideal for getting ski equipment nor for getting the kids to ski school (Krallinger). Our girls hadn't skied before and so the ski school bus came to collect them. But this still meant trekking the kids across the piste to the bus (as you can't drive right to the door) and then again from the bus drop off down to the nursery slope. However after two days, our girls could ski well enough that we could get the lift up and then ski down to ski school and then it was really easy and convenient! Just straight onto the Edelweissbahn next to the hotel, and down a short easy blue. So the location was actually fantastic for us. But if you have very young children or non-skiers, or if you want to go into town at night, the location might not work for you. The food was really very very good and totally surpassed our expectations. The breakfast buffet had a good choice, though the fresh fruit wasn't the best quality. It wasn't advertised, but they were happy to bring a plate of scrambled egg also (I saw someone else having one). At breakfast you fill out a slip of paper with your choices for the evening menu. The evening meal was a soup (no choice), salad buffet (quite traditional; lettuce a bit wilted); main course chosen that morning, rounded off by a set pudding. The main courses were generally two or three of a meat option, a fish option, a vegetarian option and a kids option. There was always a meat option, so some evenings either veggies or children were not specifically catered for. The first night we got 'Gordon Bleu' and chips, but other than that the main courses were of an exceptional quality, as were the puddings. Our room was perfect for us: a kingsize bed in the main sleeping area and a separate area for the kids with two single beds and their own clothes storage, separated from the main bedroom by a curtain. There was maid service daily and the cleaning ladies were very friendly. We also enjoyed using the infrared cabin and sauna before dinner! All in all, a fantastic 3* hotel which I would highly recommend for the money.

"Great Location"

10.0

We stayed here in 2013, location is great. Ski straight into the ski room in the evening and right next door to the lift(Edelweiss). This made such a difference when kids were tired in the evening. Once the kids had mastered their skiing we could take the edelweiss lift and ski down to the ski school. The food was good, maybe a bit salty at time but I think this is probably the local way. Staff very friendly and helpful, they drove us to the ski hire shop on the first morning. Room was spotless. We are not used to smoking in bars and found it very smoky but just stayed in the restaurant. I would say if you want to be right in the Apres Ski area stay in the main area. For skiing this is perfect you can be on the slopes straight after breakfast.

"Always Excellent"

10.0

A party of eight of us went skiing in the area as we do every year. I have not stayed at the hotel but we often use it as a rendezvous for lunch or après ski before heading off. The food us always excellent (gulaschsuppe being my favourite as it warming, filling and not to heavy for the post lunch runs) The service is excellent, the pricing not too bad and the portions a good size. We shall return.

"Hotel at the ski slope, great food"

10.0

Situated just in front of Edelweissbahn and Plattenkarbahn, right on the ski slope. Cosy and domestic atmosphere, specific country interior design with sense for details, rooms&bathroom are clean and comfortable. Take half board, as food is delicious! Price for HB is one of the most acceptable in Obertauern! Choice of music during eating time and during your apres ski break is nice and discreet (not much of austrian folk ;). There is night bar and sauna available in the hotel as well. Staff are very kind and courteous, willing to give you all needed information or recommendations. Only small disadvantage is that you need to cross the ski slope to reach the street and parking (without any problem staff will take your luggage by snowmobile), it additionally gives more to the charm to this nice place to remember....
