Hotel Casa Barrocco Oaxaca

The first impression when we arrived was, this is not like the website picture, same structure, but a little rundown. Once we open the door of our room, it hits you, the dungy and humid smell of old, like an old basement. Rooms not as big as pictured and very dark and humid, truly little air circulation, the air conditioning was noisy and not very efficient, did not cool down the room, it circulated the same stuffy air, felt claustrophobic. At night, the room was lit by the outside lights, since the window covering did not cover very well, and being on the ground floor, the night staff conversation kept me up a good portion of the night. We booked the room for four nights, but after the first night, we had enough. Asked for a refund, and was given only half, just two days, penalized one night for cancelling. Staff very accommodating and nice but could not make up for the deficiencies of the place.

The Casa Barrocco Hotel is a delightful oasis in the historic centre of Oaxaca City. The hotel is new, but has been built around two courtyards within a traditional Colonial building that was formerly a museum. The rooms are spacious and well furnished, spotlessly clean and we happily stayed here for eleven days. The hotel has yet to open its restaurant but complimentary drinks and fresh fruit were always available. The staff at this hotel are absolutely amazing. Nothing was too much trouble and they made sure we had a very comfortable stay. We can highly recommend this hotel.

This is a gem of a hotel in the perfect location for exploring Oaxaca. The staff, particularly Ita are beyond helpful both before and during check-in. The rooms/bathrooms aren’t big but have everything needed for a city break. They’re all arranged hacienda style around the internal courtyard - with windows looking inward. There’s free coffee and tea all day and a fruit bowl for snacking. The staff are cheery and helpful and sort out problems straight away ( had small issue with our water). Also great WiFi and Netflix on tv ..... perfect if you need fancy a night in. We'd highly recommend.
