The Crown Hotel

The location was good for our purposes.

It was incredibly hot in our room. And although the hotel provided a fan, the room was still stiflingly hot, making sleep almost impossible. But to be fair to the hotel, it had been a very hot day. Perhaps if they had offered the option to open the windows wider, our stay might have been a little more comfortable. The staff were not their usual jovial selves; everything seemed like too much effort, especially when it came to the bar staff. We've long viewed the Crown Hotel as our go-to hotel when we stay in Dorset. After this stay, we may look at other options.

Everything went well. The staff in the restaurant were really nice but a little disorganised. Superb beer garden outside.

The bedroom was extremely hot in the sunny weather. The operators were clearly aware and had installed an air on unit which was noisy and not very effective.

We arrived on a beautiful sunny day, and the garden terrace looked so inviting , it was clearly popular with the locals too. From the moment we arrived, everyone gave us such a warm and friendly welcome. The staff kindly managed to reserve us a table for dinner that evening, which we really appreciated. Our room was the perfect size for our family. I wasn’t expecting separate rooms, so I was delighted to discover the layout was set up that way. Both rooms were spacious enough to comfortably fit our toddler’s inflatable bed, and we never felt crowded or on top of each other. Each room had a TV. Netflix didn’t work, but we were able to log into our Amazon Prime account instead. The fans in both rooms were very much appreciated, especially during the warm weather, and the blackout blinds were a lovely touch with children. There were plenty of towels for everyone, and I loved the funky pop of green in the décor. The tea and coffee selection was excellent, with plenty of variety and biscuits for everyone which definitely pleased the kids! I especially loved the tall ceilings, large windows, and beautiful Victorian style radiators. The bathroom also had a fantastic feature with a soft blue LED light that automatically came on during the night, which was perfect for little ones. There was plenty of storage space too, including shelves and hangers. I honestly slept well for the first time in a long time. The whole place had such a lovely, calming energy. The dining hall was peaceful, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was exceptional with something to suit all tastes. We also enjoyed a short walk to a nearby park, which was quiet and pleasant with lovely views. We would definitely stay here again.

Netflix not working, this was a minor problem outweighed with lovely service.

Easy check-in, loads of free parking, small but perfectly formed double room on the second floor. Staff were the right amount of friendly. Good selection of draught beer. Beautiful building with character in all rooms.

Food was okay but pricey; we had breakfast and dinner in the garden. However, the room was sweltering: windows open about two inches, hallways on second floor were very hot even at 2100hrs, the fan had to be repositioned onto a chair near the window and kept on all night - noisy. Even a cold shower did little to relieve the heaviness of rhe air in the room. Hardly slept and was exhausted the next day. If you have no way of cooling the rooms I would suggest not putting guests on the second floor in hot weather. The building is beautiful, the breakfast croissants excellent but the comfort of the room in the heat was awful.

The location was excellent, the room design was beautiful, and the cleaning staff were absolutely wonderful and very helpful throughout our stay.

Unfortunately, the room was facing the ventilation system, so there was a constant noise at all times. The Wi-Fi was also unreliable and kept disconnecting. In addition, the TV settings were very confusing and the television did not work properly.

Location good. Cooked breakfast was a little small with only 1 egg & 1 sausage

I had to chase my main coarse on the Wednesday night. But the pub was busy both inside & outside. I didn’t eat at the hotel last time I stayed so can not compare if Wednesday night was a blip. I do hope it was.

Good location. Clean . Helpful staff. Good bed.

No air conditioning. Very hot in the room so very poor sleeping.Noisy fan not effective. Very small window opening. Breakfast extra. Small room. Expensive .
