- I let the hotel know that it was my wife;s birthday in my booking, nothing special was done for her - We could not even enjoy dinner as no table was made available for us (no time at all for just 2 people who paid £625.00 for just a room for one night). We stayed in our room, no dinner - unforgiveable. - We came for the spa and in particular HOT TUB. ONE HOT WAS OUT OF ORDER - THE OTHER HAD DAY GUESTS IN THERE FOR THE WHOLE 2 HOURS WE WERE THERE MEANING WE NEVER EVEN GOT INTO A HOT TUB. - In the sauna i burnt the back of my head of the wall where the wood had broken off (men's changing room sauna).

The actual spa was lovely but my overall experience was horrible as they refused to honour the price that we had paid for our rooms, I’d booked 3 rooms and we were refused them all on arrival and asked to pay a further £200 each for all three rooms.

I had to sit and negotiate a price for one rooms even though we had booked and paid in full for three rooms x

Upon check-in, we were asked whether our visit was for a special occasion, to which we explained that it was our anniversary. We were then informed that the restaurant was already fully booked for the evening, leaving us with the options of ordering from the room service menu or visiting a local pub instead. This was a disappointing start to what was meant to be a celebratory stay. We had booked one of the attic rooms at £290 per night. The room was small with low ceiling height. The concierge service is accessed primarily via tablet/app. The Wi-Fi signal in this room was extremely poor, making the system frustrating to use. Wi-Fi connectivity for phones and laptops was equally unreliable. The room service offering was disappointing, particularly considering the restaurant was unavailable to us. The menu was limited, heavily overpriced and quality of food was average. The spa facilities were the biggest disappointment of all. The indoor hot tub was cold, and the pool itself felt unheated. The sauna and steam room facilities are separated into the men’s and women’s changing areas, meaning couples cannot enjoy these together. In the men’s area specifically, the steam room was barely warm and had a noticeably musty odour, making it an unpleasant experience. The sauna also failed to reach an enjoyable temperature. Cleanliness was also an issue. Looking beneath the sauna seating, there was visible grime and build-up that suggested the area had not been properly cleaned for some time. The outdoor sauna, while visually appealing, was also ineffective due to poor insulation. Alexander House markets itself as a luxury hotel and spa, but unfortunately this visit did not deliver anything close to the level of quality or experience we expected — especially given the price paid. This review was shared with the manager prior to posting.

Lovely character to the building, very good location. Quiet Staff were very friendly and helpful

The swimming pool was slightly on the cold side, but rest of facilities were really good
