The Major Oak Lodge with Hot Tub

booked the Major oak lodge for a short get away with my partner . In my way there I received a phone call from Allerthorpe country park saying the lodge had been double booked but everything would be fine because they had upgraded us to another lodge . On arrival we realised they had given us a lodge for people with pets. I don’t own a pet I was assured it wouldn’t smell. We arrived at our lodge and the first thing we could smell was wet dog smell We opened all the windows in the hope the smell would go away. Reception was now closed ! The lodge absolutely stunk the sofas were dirty we couldn’t sit on them because they stunk of dogs we had to put the single quilts over them to feel comfortable and hide the smell.9am the next morning we went to reception to be told there was no alternative as were full booked. I requested a refund but was told they couldn’t authorise this as she was just receptionist and the boss wasn’t in till following day. So to contact booking.com . We were extremely disappointed and what was supposed to be a lovely relaxing few days was ruined and stressful . We are still waiting for a reply from booking.com . We wanted to leave and go somewhere else because really weren’t enjoying staying in a dirty smelly lodge but couldn’t afford to just lose the money we had paid . Will certainly not be returning

The late check in and early check out meant the time in the accommodation was quite short for a 1 night stay

Absolutely nothing at all

We loved the lodge, it was nice and cosy just what we wanted.

The shower was boiling hot and did not let us make it cooler, the head also didn’t stay up when we put it on. This was very annoying. Also the light outside didn’t work, so when we tried to go in the hot tub it was pitch black. We found it hard to get in contact with the staff every time we called it wouldn’t go through and wouldn’t let us leave a message, even via chat we would not get a response. We also had to re wash the dishes before use as they were dirty.

Heating noisy (fault on boiler)

For the price we paid, we were disappointed with the size of the caravan. To call this a "lodge" is an exaggeration. Compared to other sites we have stayed at, this was the most expensive but by far, the smallest, being a single unit. Baring in mind the temperature was hovering around zero when we arrived, it would have been nice if the heating had been on for our arrival. The cleaning apparatus on the decking should have indicted a clean hot tub, on the contrary, the hot tub had a tide mark indicating it hadn't been cleaned recently. We have never stayed anywhere, were we were expected to strip our own beds before leaving.

Peacefulness and quiet

It had not been cleaned previous occupants' detail's and items still inside. Dirty kitchen items cobwebs and hot tub not functioning as should
