Хижа Ловна в Рила

I was there to do the 7 Rila Lakes hike and I ended up hiking with a Bulgarian guy on a trail straight from Lovna Hut. It was such a welcoming experience overall. I showed up late in the evening (had to take 2 buses from Sofia, then a taxi). The taxi had to drop me off at the chair lift (even though the lift was closed for the day) and I walked 30 minutes. It was fairly easy to follow my map and the signs to find Lovna Hut. When I arrived the staff was so friendly and said I could bring the food I brought into the community area and eat with them and chat. There were several people from Spain dancing and I chatted with and shared some rakia with some of the Bulgarian men. Overall it was very spontaneous, welcoming, and fun! I enjoyed my hike with my new friend, Ivan, the next morning and he was a great guide (but you can also walk back to the chair lift and go from there). The 7 Rila Lakes hike was amazing and so worthwhile!!

The location is great but very basic. We were there in October so everything in off season.

The hut is not well maintained, not suitable for families.

I’ve always heard nice things for this place and in fact the location in very nice. Easy track we’ve headed with our small dog and our 2 years daughter. The food was good but you need to catch the hosts somewhere over the place to order.

Our room get flooded out of the sudden, we have’t been moved from it. It was not cozy at all and extremely overpriced for what we got. No electricity you got it only by a generator used when the hosts need it. I don’t need to mention the hygiene in the room, some fireplace staffed with paper in the corner, pipes on the floor ( where we got flooded from), humidity ( we now know where it wines from) and the feeling that these blankets are never been washed. The worst part from my perspective was the junky people that started to came over at the evening - drunk people coming there to smash their heads with alcohol. Some of these guys can bearly stand on their feeds. We had the fastest dinner ever as we just wanted to get out of the dinning rooms (where all these people are smoking inside where my 2 years one is trying to have a meal. In the morning we found a guy sleeping on the bench at the dining room - he was desperately drunk…. The host didn’t get up until 09:30 in the morning, so no coffee, no breakfast, no tea 😂Only leftovers on the tables from last night and a drunk man laying in the middle of this mess. We’ve just left money for our meals on the kitchen shelves as there was no one to pay to. 😂 and left and will never visit this alcoholic place again.

Great little lodge in beautifull nature. Boris made us welcome and I really enjoyed my stay.

The hut is in a beautiful location, we had a 4*4 so we coumd approach it by car. On the first night (Thursday) we were the only guests so we had some nice talk with Boris with the help of Google Translate. Next evening many Bulgarian travelers arrived and we had great chats, local wine and campfire so it was really a great experience overall :)

There is some garbage and old things that are not needed anymore around the property that ruins the atmosphere a little bit.

We really loved staying at the Lovna Hut. Although it was an adventure getting there, being surrounded by a beautiful forest, kind people, and hardworking, friendly staff was worth it. (The staff members can also organise taxis for you to get from the Ski Lift to Sapareva Banya or Dupnica Train Station, however you must walk or take a bumpy drive from the Ski Lift to the Lovna Hut. There are signs to Lovna to help hikers though.) I would highly recommend this accommodation. Staying here honestly immerses you in the experience of being in the Rila mountains. And the staff really try their best to help accommodate your needs.

Awesome forest surrounding, easy and close to reach, authentic atmosphere, very clean room, great food for reasonable prices, bonfire at night.
