Fish River Lodge

Spectacular position . Complete isolation. Unbelievable views and night skies. Great minimalistic decor . Douw , the general manager is a gem . Friendly, helpful and really knowledgeable. Food also great.

We booked a king room but the bed consisted of 2 smaller mattresses pushed together with some strange stuffing between them - no mattress topper which was very uncomfortable and may as well have been 2 twin beds.

Of course the view is spectacular. The staff were very friendly and professional. We had great fun joking with Llewellyn. The main lodge is a comfortable and welcoming room.

This is such a special place. We thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. Even though it is so remote, the arrival right on the cliff's edge made the long drive so worth it. We loved our cliff walk on the first night to watch the sunset (did this on our own) and loved the guided full day canyon drive which included a swim in the canyons. That really was the highlight with our guide Gordon who was a superstar. Funny and so knowledgable. What is amazing is how they deliver such a luxury experience with limited resources like water, electricity etc.. Food was also good.

One of the owner's friends was visiting and had to listen to him lecturing the bar staff for losing money by pouring too much wine in each wine glass, while we sat there trying to enjoy our glass of wine!

People should be advised up front on the road conditions and the roads used or not used on the safaris.

We really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds. Lovely bathroom and outside shower. Stunning views of the canyon. Excellent food and very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend. Enjoyed the sunset drive.
