Pochote Lodge

The host, Francisco is charming and the facilities are unique. The outdoor kitchen and dining is pleasant. We saw lots of wildlife and volcanic features in the park and enjoyed the hot springs in Rio negro. The lodge is rustic, adequate, economical. There are few choices in this neighborhood so it is nice to find a welcoming lodge.

The weather was wet so going outdoors was not always convenient. It is close to Rincon de la viejes park, but in a relative Costa Rica way. The roads are gravel and full of gaping holes so a few miles takes a long time. It is important to pack groceries bc there is nothing in the area. The kitchen is essential for making a meal. Bring all your own supplies, there is not much on site to augment what you forgot.

Good location, the natural pool, hot water in the shower

When you book a 3 persons room it says that it has its own kitchen. This is not true. You share a kitchen with another room and the fridge is at another area than the kitchen. We only found out about the shared kitchen because we contacted the host through whatsapp before booking.

Francisco is am Amazons host, he have us a really warm welcome, a real game changer in a heavy rain day! The property has everything needed and there is a shared kitchen with full equipment close to the rooms, really useful!

Just a bit isolated, so make sure you bring food with you.

The stay itself was fantastic. The room was nice, we enjoyed the little pool, breakfast was good, and it was in a peaceful quiet spot. The host though, saved our trip on its first day. I was trying to turn around in the driveway and got our rental SUV stuck in the grass against a tree, right away he called up some neighbours to help push it out. After I was so stressed and he offered his beers to help us relax. What a great guy, and great introduction to tico hospitality.

Nothing. Some say the road is rough, it was fine in a 2WD SUV (getting stuck was my dumb fault only).

Kitchen not so well eqiped but ok anyway

The hosts were so kind and friendly. The rooms were simple yet comfortable and clean. Their breakfast was delicious and, as a bonus, we saw beautiful green parrots in the trees.
