The ambience and excellent food

The swimming pool. The wild animals roaming freely outside the fenced off area.

Put a sign on the main gate to inform the guests to phone when they get to the gate. Yes I know they sent a message - but this will help. Nobody to help with our luggage to our room - did not even offer. The staircase is narrow and difficult to climb. Our bathroom was not on suite - you had to leave your room, across the passage. At our age you get up often during the night. The floors makes a terrible creaking noise and we were so aware to not wake any other guests during the night. For supper we pre-ordered lamb curry. The amount of salt they added made the curry uneatable. I feel the manageress needs training on they way to handle guests. I felt that she sometimes came over a bit abrupt.

Excellent location for overnight stay between JHB and Cape Town. The lodge is beautiful and the setting fantastic. Our room was very spacious and clean. Food was very good.

The room was on the second floor and stairs are quite steep and narrow, which was a bit of a concern with toddlers and inconvenient with luggage - some assistance from the staff would have been appreciated. Wooden floors were beautiful, but very creaky (only a problem if you’re trying not to wake the kids). Staff generally good, but service more like self catering than a guest lodge - can be improved.

Perfect mid-way stop over

Excellent dinner and breakfast exceeded our expectations. Room was spacious and functional.

The bed was very hard for my preference.

we had excellent hospitality from Sune , from our arrival to our checkout and departure. She was very professional and accommodating, and prompt replies to our correspondence leading up to our stay was impressive. The security, i.e., fencing and gated entrance, immediately put us at ease. Our meal, the night of our arrival, was delicious, and the presentation of high quality, loved the homely feel of this charming 18th century Lodge , renovated tastefully to keep the charm of its era. Loved our air conditioned Room and all the amenities, especially our dip in the pool, to cool off after our long road trip, And our peaceful evening was spent outside at the pool , watching the Njala feeding close by. Loved that the Lodge was Pet freindly. And Sune was only too happy to have Jozy our pug there. We have definitely stumbled on a Gem in the middle of the Karoo and will definitely be back.
