Hilltop Hacienda

The place is beautiful, and very relaxing. The host make you feel like family. The location is excellent because it is like apart of the city and makes you feel like you are on a far place, but really you are like 5 minutes from the city and everything is near. We want to come back so soon

Comfort & privacy. It's my favorite place to stay in San Marcos! The host has not seen me for over a year and still remembers me!

That I couldn't stay longer!

Share a beautiful home with a nice family. We had the upstairs bedroom that has an amazing deck where we looked at the stars at night and woke up to a gorgeous sunset. The hosts were very generous with drinks and snacks. We were welcomed to use the pool anytime we wanted. We had a great rest as soon as we got there and the house was actually very quiet the entire time. The room has an additional mini split air conditioner, which was great for my wife because she likes it very cold at night. The room also had eight large flatscreen TV, the en suite bathroom had a large soaking tub which we didn’t use although very beautiful and double vanity sinks which we found very convenient. If you are looking for an updated hotel, this is not it but if you’re looking for a nice quiet place just outside of San Marcos on 2 1/2 acres with deer at night and free range chickens throughout this is the place for you. We will be back.

The location, the scenery, the host, the private access, the chicken, the deer, the solitude. It was a great value for a last minute trip and I enjoyed being able to have the quietness of a house instead of the bustling of a hotel.

The shower room needs a little love, and the doors to the outdoors have some gaps due to foundation issues, but all the doors locked and I wasn’t bothered by it. The power to the tv would go out about every 10-15 minutes and would restart. (That only happened for a brief time period). I think maybe that portion of the house was on a power saver setting because the AC and the fan would also slow down at those same intervals.

Location and price were excellent. We had 6 people in our group and this property was able to accommodate us with beds to spare. We loved the chickens, wildlife, cool breezes, and the ambiance in general. We were out on one of the many patios or in the pool for the entire stay other than sleeping. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the views are!

Okay, I’m going to be real here… nothing in the listing indicates that this is a shared space and that a family lives here full time - think “shared space” as in you may be in the kitchen or outside with family present. Roman and his sweet little family were so kind but had I known in advance, we would not have booked this place. That said, I will definitely book this place again because their presence in no way interfered with our visit. He also left out bottled water, fruit and cereal and welcomed us to anything that was there. I will say the place is dated and there are construction materials all around. There are also a lot of steps but that wasn’t a problem for our group.

I liked the location and the person I spoke with on the phone was nice.

The bedroom had an overpowering smell or laundry boosts, to the point it gave me a headache and I actually went out and purchased my own pillows and sheets because I could not handle the smell. The small fridge was broken, the large fridge was packed full of food (homeowner's food?), counter top filled with food fruit flies and condiments that should be refrigerated, the lamp bulbs burned out by bedside, there was hair in the bathroom sink, after washing my hands in the sink I could not get the water to stop so I had to turn the water off at the valve under the cabinet, the shower was disgusting and the cold water knob was all but broken off and the hot water never went hot.
