La Kruger Lifestyle Lodge - No Loadshedding

This is a lengthy one - grab a coffee! We booked our trip to this lovely lodge via Voyage Prive, we stayed 7 nights. It was Full Board which included soft drinks and a stay in a luxury chalet with open vehicle safari drives included. The lodge is situated about 20 minutes from Kruger in a beautiful area called Marloth park. We had the most amazing time, my husband celebrated his 50th birthday while here and the staff certainly pulled out all the stops to make it very special. Our chalet was bush willow, very private and in good conditions as per the online images. I found all the staff extremely friendly and helpful and they work extremely hard. I particularly want to point out Given who was like a friend to us. The food was of good quality breakfast had lots of options from continental to many hot a la carte options. This was especially enjoyable after a sunrise safari! Lunch was a selection of sandwiches/ burgers and salads! The chips are some of the nicest I’ve ever had- recommend trying them. Dinner was 3 courses the menu was displayed outside daily. I enjoyed the dinners I would say I would have preferred to have a choice but each day there was a meat, vegetables and potatoes, couscous or rice. I would have liked to have perhaps pasta or a casserole but I think the food was typical of the region. Nice choice of wine options to purchase. We were busy each day with safaris and day trips and all were expertly organised by Jacques and the team. Jacques is a real asset to the place and kept us up to date at all times and check in on us regularly. The area around the lodge is lovely. Lots of animals roaming freely and monkeys playing in the trees. This was a real delight. There is a pool and sun loungers to use. We didn’t use the pool as it was too cold when we were there but I think it would be very refreshing in the hot summer. We really enjoyed evenings sitting outside by the fire with a blanket and glass of wine. It was magical. This is was a trip of a lifetime for us and La Kruger made it extra special. For anyone thinking of visiting in June. There was plenty of sunshine midday to early afternoon. But once the sun was gone it was very cold. It was absolutely freezing in Kruger national park at sunrise. Wrap up very well. Thank you Jacques and team for everything. If we are visiting Kruger again we will stay again.

We scheduled a transfer service from Johannesburg airport for 4 hours to Nelspruit then another 2 hours from Nelspruit to La Kruger. We wanted to experience the countryside along the transfer. Be warned, it’s just roads and fields not towns and cities, so the drive was rather boring. Upon arrival, the lodge was very quaint. The rooms were decently sized but nicely decorated. Impala’s could be seen on the premises, and they funnily referred to as “McDonald’s “ as there are so many of them in and around Kruger. Breakfast and dinner were included in our stay. Breakfast was made to order eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns and toast. They also had a cold breakfast station available. The dinner menu was a set 3 course meal which changed daily and quite delicious. During dinner, the music played is big band style such as Moonlight Sonata, and such. It was like the scenes in the Golden Girls when they went dancing. It makes for a quiet atmosphere and rather stuffy formal dinner setting. My one suggestion, to change up the music every now and then to create a more mingling feel while dining. The lodge was about a 25 minute drive to Kruger National Park which was very fine with us. We did enjoy the stay. When not on safari, it was very relaxing and I would consider staying again. Special shout out to Given, Laura and Sabelo for always having a smile on their faces and taking interest in our day’s activities and being above and beyond accommodating. They especially made our time at La Kruger Lodge very enjoyable.

What an amazing stay we had at LA Kruger. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was gorgeous and had everything we needed. So comfortable, clean and well equipped. We even had a lovely Lapa next to the room where we could enjoy an early morning coffee and watch the wild animals from there. I will highlight recommend this guest house to anybody in need of a nice getaway.

The room was supposed to have a view which was not the case. The only window was giving on the shared terrace where dinner occurred 2 out of 3 days we where there meaning coming back from activités we had to keep our window and blind closed because people were dinning. No privacy absolutely terrible and happen despite signaling it to the personnel! In addition the room is directly opening to the lobby so constant people coming and going. The food for dinner was one option only and we discovered that walking outside the property was prohibited after 6 pm making it impossible to have dinner anywhere else that at the lodge. The lunch provided was the same everyday and we discovered that the prices for the activities booked via the hotel were grossly inflated.

The staff was super nice and accommodating to our various needs (and we were difficult guests this time, travelling with a toddler and on very short notice). The food was very good, although breakfast has some limitations. It is also a very small lodging, with a very high ratio of superbly trained staff per guest. The cleanliness is impeccable!

We would have loved to find shower gel, shampoo, etc. in large refillable bottles instead of the small ones that waste a lot of plastic.

The roads to the lodge need maintenance.

Super friendly staff upon arrival! It was really hot and they offered us a delicious welcome drink! Our room was spacious with a really comfy bed and pillows! A lot of extra’s in the room like a hair dryer. We had a large terrace from which we could spot the monkeys. Dinner and breakfast service was perfect! ‘Given’ our host was just lovely and attentive! We would recommend this place highly!
