Wild Edge - Wilpattu Safari Stay

The property is very close to the park entrance and has a nice peaceful setting looking out onto the rice paddies, with lots of birds and wildlife to see. The full day safari we arranged through the property was brilliant and excellent value (including the delicious meals we included).

The property’s unstaffed and quite basic really (it’s pricey for what it is). There’s not really anywhere to sit comfortably in the evening if the insects are too much on the terrace, and it’s hard to find because it’s tucked away and there’s no sign.

We stayed at Wild Edge for three nights and enjoyed every part of our stay here! You can sit outside and watch the peacocks and occasionally some other wildlife in the beautiful green rice fields and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. The room had everything we needed and Hashan was super nice and welcoming. His wife cooked some delicious meals for us, even to take on the safari tours we did. We also booked our jeep safaris directly with Hashan, who showed us some amazing wildlife in Wilpattu National Park, including a leopard, deer, monkeys, various birds, buffalo, sloth bear and crocodiles. We can only recommend booking the ‘whole package’ with accommodation, food and safari tours. All in all our stay at Wild Edge was just perfect and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet, just sitting outside gazing into the rice fields. We can only recommend this place to everyone visiting Wilpattu. Thank you again for this amazing experience!

The location and views with lots of peacocks just roaming the fields. The staff were lovely, we booked our safari with them and would definitely recommend booking with them.

The most beautiful location! Looking out across paddy fields. All we had to do was sit and watch the wild birds come to us. A very special place. Food supplied was really delicious, possibly the best breakfast of our trip! Staff were lovely.

Wild Edge is just that. It's a bit rough and ready. Sink and toilet need a proper scrub, descaling. Doors were warped and wouldn't close properly. Only secured by bolts to top of frames. I couldn't reach to do this. Electricity was a bit unstable and stopped ac working for a couple of hours. The staff are doing the best they can, the owner needs to step up to make the accommodation match the glorious location.

They stop water in the middle of the night. We had to leave at 5 am. without any shower or freshen up. The fridge had some leftover food.

Great rural location over looking a rice field ,make sure you book the meal packages as very tasty as you will struggle to get fed elsewhere so close to the park entrance. Hashan was a great host and fabulous tour guide in his safari vehicle all booked directly and great value.

No road signage to accommodation but worth the search just ask a local they all know where it is.

Our host was really kind and knowledgable about the park. I wish we had asked him to be our guide for the safari in the park as he has 8 years' experience as a guide and has a jeep, and told us a lot more over dinner about the park then our actual guide did on the day. Dinner was nice, beautiful view over rice paddy fields with amazing bird life. Really quiet, no one else around. Good locks on the doors, felt safe. Mosquito netting around the bed. Warm shower.

We thought there would be breakfast included in the morning but none was provided.

The booking was smooth, caretaker Hashan was friendly and helpful, food was alright, very close to the Wilpattu park. Serene atmosphere facing a paddy field.

Smaller than it looks in the pictures. Our bill for three came to 31,000 HB, which is like 10k per person, so the value for money is.... ?

Nestled in the middle of rice fields and very close to Wilpattu National Park this place is extremely well located and really beautiful. Hashan, the manager is absolutely wonderful – he also organizes safaris, (half or full day exploring the park with him). It was an incredible experience! He was unbelievably kind and went above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction throughout the day. His dedication to helping guests spot leopards during the safari is remarkable – and he succeeds! His wife’s cooking is simply divine, whether it’s meals served at the accommodation or packed for the tour. The food is outstanding! I recommend this place. It was a peaceful retreat for two nights and an amazing wildlife adventure during the day.

For those worried about the lack of Wi-Fi, mobile network coverage works perfectly, so it’s not an issue at all. The only minor drawbacks, in my opinion, are that you can pay only by cash, there aren’t enough power plugs in the room and the linens could be cleaned a bit more thoroughly. But honestly, these are small issues compared to the overall incredible experience!
