Wild Edge - Wilpattu Safari Stay

Really nice place, perfect for visiting Wilpattu! Hashan was a perfect host, and safari guide! We were treated exceptionally wel, with breakfast, lunch and dinner provided during our stay and safari!

Hashan and his wife were exceptionally accommodating and truly made our stay memorable! We recommend treating the stay as a "whole package" experience: Accommodation (booked through booking.com): Located near the edge of Wilpattu National Park, the setting was scenic and convenient, making the early mornings for safari so much easier! While basic by Western standards, it’s clean, well-kept, and equipped with essentials like mosquito nets and warm water (not always common in the area and so nice after a day on safari). The delicious, spicy dinners (you have to ask for spice; if you get not spicy it is truly no spice) and cold beer added an authentic touch. We loved the short walk to a nearby tank, where we spotted more animals in the evenings. Safari Experience (we messaged and booked): We did two full-day safaris with Hashan, and his vehicle was perfect—an older model with a drop-down front window, ideal for photography. Sitting close to Hashan made it easy to communicate, and he was attentive to our needs, turning off the engine for steady shots and offering valuable wildlife insights (on other Safari's in Sri Lanka we sat separate to the driver which we found much less enjoyable). We saw an incredible range, from leopards (4 in two days!) to vibrant Bee-Eaters. The whole experience felt intimate and personalized, a true wildlife enthusiast’s dream! Current Costs (as of August 2024): Accommodation (with Dinner): 20000lkr/night National Park Entrance: 21500LKR/day (this covers a vehicle, driver and 2 people) Safari (with Food): 37000LKR/day (including tax for 2 people - in a private safari truck) Note; the above are approximate (we lost our receipt) and to the best of our memory - Hashan; if we're off feel free to correct us in the reply as this sort of info is very useful for people trip planning :D Overall, we can't recommend this experience highly enough for anyone seeking an authentic and well-rounded safari adventure!

Hashan and his wife don't live on site (which is great for privacy) however they had messaged asking what time we would arrive that day and we missed the message and so we had to call them when we arrived and needed to wait a bit to get in. Not an issue but worth being aware of!

Very basic utility, close to the main gate of Wilpattu NP. Dinner was good.

No toilet paper, no trah can, no fridge.... for 1 night ok.

Easy access to the national park, beautiful outlook onto the rice fields. Owners are both very lovely and accommodating. The dinner they cooked for us was so tasty!!! Not easy to find though, down a narrow and hidden driveway with no sign at the front. Is next to wild watch.

The bed/ pillows weren't very comfortable.

Basic but great location and value for money

It was an awesome stay. Close to the Nationalpark, directly in the nature. On our first day we did a little walk to the Nationalpark by foot and discovered the near by Lake. There is not much to Do arround but we enjoyed this quiete stay. When its dark you hear and See the nature arround. With moskito spray its a awesome experience. Hashan was Our service, Our tuktuk driver and Took us to Safari, which was beautyful. The breakfast, Lunch and dinner was delicious and didnt cost much.

View into the garden and so close to the National park- the stuff and the food was exceptional.

We had a great stay of 2 nights at Wild Edge! A pretty location with views over the field. Hashan and his wife made excellent Sri Lankan food for us which we really enjoyed. Hashan was also a great guide at a full-day safari for us, where we saw many animals, even leopards!

Very friendly staff, we booked last minute and everything went well. We got a dinner organized for us. Rooms are simple but big and clean, good aircon and mosquito net. Place is basically in front of the national park.
