Kaoglen Doe Suite - Infrared Sauna - Dog Friendly - Feature Claw Bath Tub

Absolutely spotless, I couldn’t believe there had been dogs in here before as the cleanliness is to such a high standard. The location is perfect, plenty of walks nearby. This is by far the most spacious cabin I have ever stayed at - it is huge! Beds were so comfortable, the restaurant next door is a bonus but I would book in advance! The meal was beautiful and the cocktails! Great idea to have some seating outside we really enjoyed sitting out with a few drinks enjoying the view. Yes the walls are pretty thin, there was a 30th next door to us so we could hear them playing air hockey and chatting but didn’t bother us as they sounded like they were having a lot of fun! I would 100% visit here again, the best place we have ever visited, I will definitely be recommending.

Great Stay in this very remote establishment. The bed was very comfortable and the living area as well. Some lovely walks on the doorstep and a great restaurant on site.

The only problem was the drain in the shower blocking up but that was corrected quickly by one of the chaps.

The area was nice, lots of little birds flitting about to watch and there were swallows and martins. A few nice walks close by as well, the village of Kirkmichael is lovely. The lodge itself was clean, although the layout is a bit bonkers, and the clawfoot tub was lovely. We visited the restaurant next door, which very kindly seated us even though we didn't have a reservation, and the food and staff were lovely, very highly recommend a visit to it, but do make sure to book in advance! I've put some of the things I didn't like here too, as there wasn't full space in the other box! First of all, privacy, there isn't really any in the Doe lodge, unless you close the curtains, which kind of defeats the point of the lovely location and views. You can hear next door, and depending on who is staying that can be right up til the early hours, which isn't good if you're trying to rest readying yourself for a big hike the next day. On top of being able to hear whoever is staying, the Doe lodge is next to the "reception" which is used as storage for cleaning materials, so staff are in there early doors to get the stuff for cleaning vacated lodges. In addition to this, as the Doe lodge is located next to reception, everybody and their uncle walks past to get to their lodges, hence the having to close your curtains in the living room, and the bedroom. The bed wasn't the comfiest and I had a spring sticking in my back at points too.

There wasn't much information to be found about what was provided at the lodge before going. As it is self-catering it would have been nice to know beforehand what was available kitchen-wise. For self-catering, with an oven, you would at least expect an oven tray, which there was none, no kitchen foil or baking paper either, so if you want to cook something in the oven, be sure to take these with you. Although handwash is provided, washing up liquid isn't so take that too. And instructions on how to use the oven/microwave were not helpful, these need a refresh I think (we're not daft, it just didn't make sense!). If you want microwave meals or beans on toast then that's ok, as there are a couple of pans and a toaster. Also, a pizza cutter, yay! The fridge has a small freezer as well, so good for any frozen ready meals. The bathroom was lovely, and the claw tub was very nice, but perhaps somewhere to actually hang the towels? Getting out of a lovely shower or bath and having to run across to wherever our towels were was not very nice! >_< Also maybe change the settings on the light in the toilet? It goes off by itself after 6 seconds if you're not moving, or even if you are moving, and although there's a light on the mirror it's not very nice if you forget to put it on and are left sitting waving your arms in the pitch black.... Last but not least, any self-catering lodge I've ever been to has provided a hairdryer, I knew to bring one from reviews, but finding somewhere to plug it in and be able to see myself in a mirror was difficult as all the plug sockets were so close to the floor that my plug wouldn't fit! In short, we managed to stay in this lodge, but there were so many little niggles that we probably won't be back :(

Where to start! The check in was easy - key is in the door, in you go. The arrival board was very pretty. There was so much space! The kitchen has everything you needed, the bed was beautifully made and the bathroom, wow... A freestanding bath tub and a separate double headed shower. Also, the on site bar & restaurant is great, food was delicious. Debbie and all other staff were so friendly and was so refreshing to have somewhere completely dog friendly. Side note - the cocktails make you feel on proper holiday. Also, can't forget the location!!

The location was amazing

Bed was a little soft.

The neighbours next door on Friday night had really loud music until 4 am,and the next night until 2 am and at about 5 am they started to argue with one another. We couldn't really notify anyone from staff members because we didn't see anyone.

Very clean, lodge was spacious and massive bath. We loved it!

We loved the bedroom it was so warm and comfortable! The staff in the bar/ restaurant were so friendly and welcoming! And the food was excellent! We will definitely book again

The only complaint I have is that there was no hot water for the bath, which was pretty disappointing as there was a beautiful claw foot bath which would have been nice to relax in. The Hot water In the kitchen took 20 minutes to heat up when cleaning dishes. And I think there was something wrong with the pipes because when we were running the bath dirty water started coming out the drain in the shower! Also there were no complimentary extras. Such as tea, coffee, sugar. When staying in self catering you expect these sorts of things. Also the WiFi was very slow! Apart from that everything else was great
