TEMBO Cottage Wilpattu

Pool looked uninviting.

It has a beautiful garden and a good pool. The room was really clean and it is a good location for Wilpattu national parc. The hosts were very nice and made very good food.

We have had the most amazing time at Tembo! On arrival we were welcomed by the lovely team of Tembo and got a tour through the rice fields by Venushka. When we returned, the team served us the best food we had so far in Sri Lanka! It was so good that we booked a cooking class since we wanted to learn how to cook it ourselves. Unfortunately, due to the very heavy rain, the cooking class was canceled. They however came up with a very nice alternative and demonstrated in their own kitchen how they make typical Singalese dishes. We also booked an amazing pottery class through Tembo and enjoyed every second of it.

The location was good and the air conditioning worked well.

The value for money is not great. The “Free breakfast” was a cold omelet and toast (nothing else, not even fruit) despite telling them breakfast time. Check your bill because the owners do not use correct exchange rate for foreigners. Constantly upsell safari at extremely exaggerated prices taking advantage of foreigners.

The staff were so helpful. We were greeted with drinks. We had a really lovely home cooked rice and curry dinner. Safari arrangements were sorted and booked and picnic breakfast for whilst we were out.

Nothing.

This place was really cute. Super location right by the national park entry, really sweet staff and the pool was so good after a hot dusty day on safari. There was a little confusion when we first arrived, but quickly sorted out, and the young staff were all doing their best. The food cooked for us at dinner time was delicious and plentiful. The staff were even kind enough to organise a cake for my birthday. We did a full day safari, organised via the hotel, and it was brilliant. Great price, wonderful driver and we were lucky enough to see our top 3; leopards, elephant and even a sloth bear.

A fridge in the room to keep drinks cold would be amazing, but this isn't common place in Sri lanka so definitely nothing to hold against this hotel.
