This is a hunting farm. Which took me by surprise. What also took me by surprise was what was offered on Booking.com did not reflect what was provided. The booking.com site referred to a 'room'. But this was very basic tent, with shared (also minimal) ablutions. The only hand basin for washing in the morning was the one outside the toilets for hand washing in the ablution block. The shared male/female shower area constructed from wood/branches was not private at all. The price was way too high for what is being offered. Disappointing as the host/owner seemed keen to please and provide good service.

Before booking, I asked a question of management. Do you do any hunting on this property! Answer: we do not hunt here. Therefore I booked this property, relying on this answer. Imagine my shock and dismay when checking in and we were told that this is indeed a HUNTING game farm. When I informed the owner, he denied having written the “we don’t hunt here “ response. Well, someone did! I feel very strongly that hunting innocent animals in a fenced in area is wrong, especially for trophy hunting, and I did not want to support this endeavor with my money. We reluctantly stayed as it was late, remote, and the CC card had already been charged. In the morning, I look out the window and there are three men in camo carrying rifles getting ready for a hunting trip. Not something I care to see. So if you are ok with hunting, stay there as it is a nice and well taken care of property. But if you feel like me, you may want to choose another place. The information on booking. com is not complete as there is no information that Berchtesgaden game farm is indeed a HUNTING GAME FARM. I feel I have been deceived by the property as well as by booking.com and relied on false information to make a booking at this place.

Nice staff, good food

It's not in town (as the map showed) but around 35 km outside. We booked a chalet, but these were full so we ended up in a tent instead - with hardly any discount. Alternative was to find another place (on a hot day with the family in the car). This unfortunately happens more often (both our tent neighbours and other previous feed-back)
