The Beachaven Chalets, Kota Belud

Gorgeous location. We were there alone with one other family, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. We snorkeled out to coral heads around the shore and found a very wide range of fish, including a lion fish, eel and lots of clown fish. The set menu was a little pricey but abundant and very delicious. We ordered for two people and supplemented with extra rice and omelette, which was enough for our family of five. Breakfast was also delicious and generous. Definitely a very memorable part of our trip.

The accommodation is smaller than I’d imagined. I thought that each cabin you see in the photos was a room in itself. In fact, we stayed in a cabin divided into two with a thin wall. So the cabin was actually accommodating two families of five. We each had a private bathroom and veranda with ocean view though. But in the heat (even at night), it felt pretty cramped. For the price we paid, it would have been nice to have more space.

Like: Beautiful bay and beach. Friendly staff. Flexible staff wrt dining options. Phone charging available at neighbour. Some snorkelling in front of the chalets. Balcony in front of the chalet is nice. Great view Less like: Too few food options, same every day. Family chalet not really suitable for family of 5, a bed on the veranda was prepared but is not desirable. In the end our you gest son slept in our bed. Chalet is dark and generally not a nice place to relax, we only slept there. The staff are flexible with food, and serve huge portions, we could easily split a meal (avg price 40RM) for 2 kids. I would recommend to stay here for 2 nights, longer only if you are really looking for the feeling of seclusion.

Stunning location at the beach. Breakfast is served at your preffered time. Pancakes, eggs, fruit and noodles/rice. Served with coffee or tea. The a là carte menu is small, so if your staying for a couple of days it may be a bit of eating the same again and again, but the food is very good. They don`t have much bevereges to choose from, so bring what you need. They had soft drinks(sprite only), water, coffee, tea and beer. No snacks or anything to be bought so bring your own supplies. Make sure you bring some mossie repellent too, the resort supplies mosqito-coils to be used, but you do want repellent aswell. Loved that there is limited power and almost no signal. It`s a good idea not to bring too much luggage and pack watertight as there is a small boat bringing you to the resort. Waves was breaking when we arrived(quite low water) and we, and all our luggage, was soaked.

There is a solar system, charging batteries during daytime, allowing you to have a night light and fan running through the night(if you don`t waste electricity during afternoon and evening), but of course on the warm days it`ll still be quite warm in the night. The charging system has got USB outlets, who could be utilised for chargeing phones etc, but i think they are de-activated. There is not much signal, so you really dont need to charge your device, but if necessery just hand it to the boys working there and the`ll charge it for you when they go to the village. The kayaks they have is quite worn out, and there is just one decent paddle available and one home made, and not enough seats in the kayaks. They charge a hefty price for renting them so it`s actually not good enough, but there is no other options out here of course. The meals is quite pricey, but as you have now options I guess that`s their business idea.

It is such a beautiful and peaceful place. The limited number of chalets make it perfect for such a serene place. The bed and room is comfy and we can also sleep outside on the verandah.

Maybe a small broom in the bathroom will be good for us to clean the sand on the floor from our swimming cloths. The rest is great!

After reading all the reviews, we were slightly worried to come here. However, there was absolutely nothing to worry about - the staff and owner are amazingly friendly, the location is heavenly, the chalets are exactly what they describe them to be (rustic small beach chalets with an outdoor bathroom). We had great communication before arriving, and once we got to the meetup point, we only waited a little before the boat arrived to pick us up. Once we arrived, we were openly welcomed, with fruits, soft drinks, candy and cookies. Breakfast is good, just the lunch and dinner could have more vegetarian options. The staff looks very well after the place, even picking up all the seaweed that naturally occurs. If you expect to have internet and electricity like a 5 star resort, it is not always available. However, if you love spending time laying in the sun on the beach while reading a book, this place is for you!

The staff is nice

Our chalet was too close from the generator (around 30m) so very noisy. Our chalet had no windows and the fan was out of order. We could no enjoy the terrasse due to the noise. We complained to the owner about this continuous noise and he just told us we were ridiculous and to come back to our 5 stars hotel. We booked 2 nights but left after the 1st one due to very bad feeling and agressive comment from the owner by WhatsApp.
