NLWe had a great experience from the start with Mario picking us up from the Chepe train station in Bahuichivo. We were taken to the ranch which he runs with his family and we felt straight at home. Location is 8km out of Ceracohui in the middle of nature. The cabanas were beautiful and very clean, the ranch was spacious with lots of cute animals, seating areas and a viewing deck looking out on the canyon. As it’s rather remote, you will eat at the ranch. The food is all home made and tasted amazing. Mario can help organise all kind of tours from horse riding to hiking and a visit to Urique (bottom of the canyon).
In the entire canyon, you will not find ATMs, make sure to bring enough cash with you
MXEl personal es en su mayoría más allá de lo amable, se preocupan constantemente por tu comodidad y satisfacción con los servicios. Como la generalidad de los hoteles en Cerocahui, se encuentra lejos de la estación del tren, por ello es que todas las actividades y traslados deberás adquirirlos con el personal del hotel, pero en general son muy buenas opciones, puntuales ya precios muy razonables. Los alimentos son ricos y frescos. El paseo al mirador del Gallego fue toda una experiencia de aprendizaje gracias al señor Daniel, quien fue mi guía en ese recorrido.
Lamentablemente mi guía en la caminata hacia la cascada de Cerocahui resultó ser una persona totalmente apática e indiferente a mis necesidades durante el recorrido, ya que iba a su propio paso, demasiado veloz para quien no está acostumbrado a bajar y subir pendientes pronunciadas en terreno terregoso. Esta caminata resultó una experiencia muy desafortunada ya que duró más de tres horas, dejándome con agotamiento y dolor de cabeza. Recomiendo informarse muy bien sobre las características de las actividades que les ofrezcan ya que con tal de vender no dicen los pros y contras.

During my stay there was no warm water nor Internet, so I relocated to his brothers (highly recommended). The host is quite focused on selling their own tours (which I found pricey), the place did not feel to be equipped for winter (we had 1 degree c)
DEDie Rancho liegt abgelegen und mitten in der Natur mit wundervollen Blick übers Tal. Die Zimmer sind liebevoll eingerichtet und die Betten sehr bequem. Ein Holzofen sorgt bei kälteren Temperaturen für Wärme. Die Dusche ist warm, wenn auch das Bad an sich etwas kalt war. Für unser aber voll in Ordnung. Eben eher rustikal als luxuriös. Alles in allem werden die Bilder der tollen Rancho nicht gerecht. Es ist viel schöner! Das Essen war sehr lecker und reichhaltig, der Preis für nicht inkludierte Mahlzeiten in Ordnung.

Visiting his Brother’s Hostel in Urique by the river, hearing about his family history, seeing his unwavering support of the Urique community, and understanding his long time involvement in the Caballo Blanco Ultra marathon race, means you get immersed quickly into what makes this place special. Loved everything about our stay.
DEsuper Service, Abholung vom Bahnhof und zurück inklusive, Mario ist die Seele des Hauses. Wir bekamen am Nachmittag noch eine Tour zum Barranca de Urique angeboten und am nächsten Tag einen Guide für die Wanderung zum Wasserfall organisiert. Im Anschluss hat er uns für den gleichen Preis wie für die Bustickets nach Divisdero gefahren. Abendessen und Frühstück sind super lecker. Preise für alle Extras sind voll in Ordnung. Herzlichen Dank für den außergewöhnlichen Service.
Daran denken genügend Bargeld für alle Extras mit zu nehmen, es gibt nur die Möglichkeit in einzelnen Läden Geld via Kreditkarte gegen 10% Gebühr zu ziehen. Dafür kann die Lodge aber nichts!
USMario is a fabulous host and tour guide. The food was great
USI was surprised to be met when my bus got to Bahuichivo since an earlier bus had not stopped for me and I arrived several hours after my planned time. My wonderful host spoke excellent English that he said he learned from working with tourists, although he grew up in the area. His extended family built and runs the place. He knew the area intimately well, both the natural environment and the people, and stopped at a couple of places along the way so I could enjoy them. The cabins are attractively decorated, each in a unique way. There are animals on the property of various kinds and the area is peaceful and beautiful. I was very well treated.
No running water in the sink in my room (although there was water in the shower) and difficulty with internet connection. But I would have enjoyed a longer stay as this place has much to offer that I did not have time to appreciate.
