Location - within old town and with amazing ocean views. The house itself was comfortable, well stocked with both a front verandah and a spacious back living space and garden,

The elderly or infirm would struggle with the steep access path. However, if you are of reasonable fitness - it was fine.

Excellent cottage with a serene garden.

Ein aussergewöhnlicher Platz, mit Sicht auf das Meer. Ruhige Lage und trotzdem mitten in der Altstadt.

Das Schloss der Eingangstüre klemmte ein wenig. Mit Muskelkraft und Feingefühl ist es jedoch gelungen diese zu öffnen.

Die Wohnung ist richtig schön landestypisch und hat eine wunderbare Lage. Dazu der Weg zur Wohnung ein steilen Anstieg hat und auch in der Wohnung einige Treppenabsätze sind, würde ich sie stark gehbehinderten Menschen nicht unbedingt empfehlen. Ansonsten hat die Wohnung eine wunderschönen Garten mit einer herrlichen Aussicht. Sie ist zweckmäßig eingerichtet, und es ist eigentlich alles vorhanden, was man braucht. Sehr lohnenswert sind die Fliegennetze an den Fenstern.

Das Sofa im Wohnzimmer könnte langsam mal ausgewechselt werden. Dies ist aber bitte nicht als großer Mangel zu verstehen.

The property is ideal for anyone interested in history, as it’s built right next to the ancient walls of the Venetian Fortezza. You really feel connected to the heritage of the area. One of the highlights is the incredible views. The front of the property faces the town and the Fortezza, with snow‑capped mountains in the distance, making it the perfect place to enjoy the sunrise from the table and chairs outside. At the back, the garden looks straight out to sea with more mountain views, and you get an unobstructed, high‑level view of the sunset. When we visited, the garden was full of wildflowers and alive with bees and butterflies, which made it even more special. There are two chairs and a table, plus four seats made from logs, giving you plenty of places to relax. Inside, the main bedroom is a good size with a very comfortable bed and plenty of storage. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need if you want to prepare your own meals. We had a hire car, and the host, George, kindly met us on arrival to guide us into the parking area, which was a big help. That said, you don’t necessarily need a car to enjoy your stay here. If you’re visiting simply to relax and enjoy Cretan hospitality, there are lots of bars, restaurants and attractions within walking distance. We spent a lot of time just sitting in the garden, looking out to sea and watching the world go by. If you want to explore a bit further, there are local buses and a very good hop‑on hop‑off bus that takes you around the town and up into the hills. The property is only a short walk from the bustling old town, with its shops, tavernas and historic streets. There’s also a well‑stocked supermarket nearby that stays open late, which was really convenient. Overall, Casa Di Maria is a wonderful place to stay if you want history, views, comfort and easy access to everything Rethymno has to offer. We loved our time here and would happily return.
