Villa Sunari Ubud

The vila was just like on the pics! Beautiful pool! My kid didn’t want to get out of it! We were greeted by Aki and Gusti during terrestrial rain and they brought out huge umbrellas. The villa was spotless clean. Staff were beautiful. The decor was so tasteful!

We were warned about the noise coming from construction across the river and the host was kind enough to not only refund 1 night (as we found out quite late about it) but we also got a floating breakfast for my kid for free! Two minor things - the tiles get slippery when it rains/from the pool but we were provided extra towels. The bathtub leaked and there was a minor drip in the single bed bedroom but they will be fixing it soon!

The size and the space

The cleaning was substandard, the beds extremely uncomfortable and impacted our sleep, the air conditioning was very noisey and construction work all day and until 930-10pm at night!

What a find! Located not far from the city centre on Jalan Sri Widari (don’t worry about having to walk the narrow busy road, just use the Grab app to call a taxi, it’s so easy - only IDR50 one-way). It was a bit tricky to find at first as it is set back with a rice paddy at the front but once you know where it is you can just easily find your way back. Once you’re inside, you’ll never want to leave, it is so lovely and homey. My family of 5 (plus a one-year old toddler) loved it! We were in the infinity pool within minutes of arrival, it was that irresistible. Surrounded by rainforest trees, it was so peaceful and idyllic. Note: the Villa backs on to a deep ravine and the infinity pool edge takes advantage of that gorgeous view across. There are balcony railings on the ravine-side of the Villa. It is really quite safe despite earlier reviews. The bedrooms were really comfortable with gorgeous views of the pool and rainforest. We all slept very well during our stay. The ensuite bathrooms are huge by Balinese standards - one even had the most delightful outdoor stone bathtub, my little granddaughter looked forward to her bath each night. There’s a filtered water dispenser at the entrance so you don’t have to worry about buying bottled drinking water at all. The kitchen is well-appointed with the necessary utensils. Not that you need to use the kitchen, for IDR70/pax Gusti the housekeeper will cook you a nice Balinese breakfast if you fancy (even dinner if you give her advanced warning). The staff (Gusti and Eka the manager) indeed are a great asset to the Villa, they are the true epitome of Balinese hospitality, so warm and friendly and ever so accommodating. You want anything, just ask! I must also mention the wildlife around the place: birds, geckos, butterflies, ants etc all add to the charm of the place, we are in the tropics after all. My granddaughter enjoyed spotting the ant trails on the railings, so cute! We’re so glad we chose to stay here!

The property was lush and the whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

After seeing the photos of the amazing bath, I was super excited to be able to relax and enjoy a lovely warm soak. Unfortunately their water system cannot generate enough warm water for a bath.

The rooms and living area was very clean and spacious. The swimming pool was brilliant and the kids and adults enjoyed it. Gusti was an excellent host and the breakfast was great. She looked after us very well.

There was nothing to not like. The location is about 15-20mins walk from main strip of Ubud however there are close by places to eat too. Pubas Cafe which is just up the road served excellent options. We walked it to Ubud on most days whilst carrying a toddler (strollers not recommended as pavements go up and down). We got used to the walk and didnt really think about distance but do your own research.

The host Gusti is fantastic. She came each morning with her husband to cook us a traditional breakfast, then cleaned afterwards. She was amazing. The villa is so beautiful. It was perfect
