What a peaceful and beautiful to stay! We spent almost a week here as a family and we instantly felt welcomed and at home. Located just a 5-minute walk from Jungle Beach, and a short tuk-tuk ride to surfing areas and Weligama centre, this is a hidden gem of a guesthouse. The owners Saman and Anura were so friendly and relaxed, checking to see if we were happy and also on hand to give suggestions, tuk-tuk rides and even play a game of cricket in the grounds, their son with our son! Klaus was super helpful too with communications especially when we 'almost' needed to change our dates. We had a clean and very comfortable room with ice-cold AC when needed. The wraparound grounds are filled with beautiful plants and nature (monkeys, peacocks and lizards). The chef prepared lovely breakfasts and we had some superb evening meals of fresh seafood (red snapper, prawns and grilled squid) in a lovely dedicated eating area. Amazing value for money and if you're looking for somewhere to stay that's close to the action but is a peaceful retreat without the hustle and bustle of the town centre, we can't recommend Top of the Hill highly enough! Honestly, by the time we left, it felt like we had stayed with friends. Thank you for an unforgettable stay!

There wasn't anything we didn't like - it could be improved by having a small pool perhaps but honestly, the beach is so close and it might ruin the serenity of the grounds - so no biggy for us :)

Eine sehr schöne, ruhige Anlage inmitten eines tropischen Gartens.  Gebäude und Ausstattung sind im Kolonialstil gehalten, es herrscht eine sehr familiäre Atmosphäre, das Personal ist überaus freundlich und entgegenkommend. Frühstück (Kontinental oder Sri Lankisch) und Abendessen waren sehr lecker und reichhaltig. Das nächste Mal bleiben wir länger an diesem paradiesischen Ort.

Schöne geräumige Zimmer, die viel Abstellmöglichkeiten bieten. Eine sehr ruhige Lage abseits des Stadtkerns in Weligama. Sehr hilfsbereites Personal.

A Charming Colonial Stay with Modern Comforts This restored colonial property offers an authentic and charming atmosphere with a perfect blend of history and modern comforts such as multi-plug adapters, both bed and overhead lighting and mosquito nets. The rooms are quiet and feature comfortable beds and newly renovated bathrooms—even better than what’s shown in the current photos on Booking. The WiFi was reliable in my room, allowing me to work and stream video without any issues. The outdoor seating areas are lovely, providing a peaceful space to relax. A highlight of my stay was the incredible Sri Lankan-style omelette—the best I’ve had in over two weeks of traveling here! Beyond the setting, the staff were exceptionally warm, kind, and helpful, making my stay even more enjoyable. I was genuinely sad to leave and would gladly stay here again. Highly recommended!

I had a lovely stay at this property. The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming, making the experience smooth from start to finish. The open kitchen was a real bonus – it felt like such a treat to cook and enjoy meals in that space. After just one night, the place started to feel like home.

The only downside was the number of mosquitoes, so be sure to bring repellent. Despite that, it was a comfortable and cozy stay. Would recommend for a relaxed, homely experience!
