Stunning secluded detached property built in the traditional Japanese style but with many modern amenities. Beautiful gardens including tsubo-niwa style courtyard garden. Wonderful warm welcome from the host Mamoru-san. Very peaceful setting down a private road, within walking distance of Daitoku-ji and only a short taxi ride from Ryoan-ji and Kinkaku-ji. Well-equipped kitchen, very high quality washer/dryer, very comfortable beds (a mix of western style beds in a room with wooden flooring and futons in a tatami room). One of the most pleasant places we have ever stayed in.

Absolutely everything! The host, who occupies an adjacent portion of the house with a completely separate entrance, was overly kind. We were shown around the updated traditional Japanese house when we arrived by his assistant who spoke solid English and also runs a local Okonomiyaki restaurant in the evenings. They helped with any planning questions, had an iPad on hand with a house directory and showing the location of local grocery stores and restaurants, and even left a few cold beverages and snacks in the fridge as a welcome. The house was gorgeous! Even Better in real life than the photos suggest. You are walking distance (15 min) to Kinkaku-ji temple so you can get there very early and beat the hoards of tourists. House is located northwest of downtown Kyoto but it’s a pretty easy subway to bus combo to get there from the main Kyoto hubs. We cooked breakfast and dinner in the house, which was amply stocked with dishes and cookware to support that. We ate dinner out at nearby Chirori (the restaurant that his assistant runs) and it was AMAZING!! Our teens preferred the Yakisoba on the menu but the adults in our group had never had okonomiyaki as lovely as this! Definitely Worth a visit!! Beds were comfortable, rooms were very spacious, and the home was beautiful! I easily could have stayed here a week or longer and not have wanted to leave.

Only thing to be aware of is that this is not close to the main Kyoto bus/train station. So if you don’t understand the local subway and bus routes you might want to ask for some tips from the tourist office in the main station before you head that way.

I was looking for a special home in Kyoto that was away from the main city and would be immersive to a more traditional style of Japanese architecture and this was exactly that and more. The host was incredibly kind upon our arrival even though it was late at night and personally welcomed us into the home. Then they took care to explain how to use everything to maximize the comfort of our stay. It was clean, well stocked with amenities, spacious, and all for a price that cannot be beat. I'll be recommending this location to all of my friends that end up traveling to Kyoto.

The only downside I can think of is that the location is a little bit out of the way from the main parts of Kyoto, but there's still so many things to do in the northern part too like the temples and even a tattoo friendly bathhouse nearby.

The best stay we had in Japan ❤️, the owner is very friendly and helpful, the kitchen is fully equipped, all comfort, the neighbourhood was amazing, the house is just wonderful

The property is amazing. What a beautiful traditional style house you stay in. They beds we so comfortable and the owner went over and above with everything. So quiet. The bus is only a 4 minute walk. Can’t express enough how great this place is to stay. Restaurant suggestions were the best. Made my food allergies seem like I didn’t have them. Thank you so much.

Beautiful home with traditional furnishings made comfortable, the small garden was peaceful to look upon and we even saw a Japanese raccoon dog which we had to search because it was an animal we had never seen before. The host lives upstairs and is lovely and extremely helpful whilst given privacy. Location is great with a short walk to a local temple, shops and the Golden Temple.

Bus ride to central Kyoto took longer than expected

Everything was good, just the pillow is not comfortable, but the owner Mamoru San and the lady assistant are very nice and helpful. Excellent hospitality and generous, we are so enjoyed.

The traditional Japanese rooms were amazing, thoughtfully designed, and provided an authentic experience that felt both luxurious and comfortable. I cannot recommend this place enough—it truly is an unforgettable stay!
