Villa Margherita

Value for the money, spacious 2 bedroom with additional sofa bed. Prompt response on any query. The laundry shop is also nearby. The nearest halal restaurant is about 10 min walk, but that was not a problem to us as we can always order food via grab/gojek.

Pool was nice, beds very comfortable. Only two cockroaches in the outside shower. Both outside showers have a roof over them so not quite an outside shower. However the rooms were huge, the entire villa was very comfortable and spotless. Very happy with our stay. And the staff were welcoming and friendly.

Roof over the outside showers, so not outside. Cockroaches X2 found in the shower but only saw them once and they disappeared.

Sinta is very helpful and friendly. She explained all the stuff and helped us settle. The rooms were spacious and clean. The toilets and bathrooms have all the toiletries.

Nothing wrong just a bit far from the nearest convenience store.

The building itself was very run down and owner needs to do some maintenance . Toilet seat was dodgy , handle of shower falling off , peeled paint and mould on outside , day bed mattress looks like needs replacing , the fittings in bathroom , toilet , bath shower etc all stained and perishing . Fittings need updating or replaced , needs some new life/ paint and a good water blast and exterior paint etc to bring back to a standard that it looks in photos .

- The air conditioning was quiet and worked well, which made for comfortable nights. - Sinta, the caretaker, was very friendly. - The villa was kept clean and tidy by Sinta throughout our stay. - Having access to filtered water with both hot and cold options was a nice touch. - Good Wifi - The pool was a good temperature and clean. - Beautiful well established garden plants and trees around pool and villa. - The villa is in a mostly quiet and peaceful lane, with lovely plants lining it. - The villa and outdoor area felt secure with high walls, solid doors and locks (no safe) - Pillows and linen were soft and comfortable. - It was conveniently located, with a few small restaurants and a Circle K nearby, and only a $3 taxi ride to the heart of Seminyak. - Mosquitoes were not much of an issue, and spray was provided in case. - Considering the price, it was good value for money, though we wouldn't pay any more.

We had an issue with the check-in time. The booking stated check-in was between 2pm and 11pm, but after booking, the owner messaged us, saying it was cash-only payment on arrival and check-in had to be by 9pm, with a $30 AUD late fee after that. We informed the villa owner weeks in advance our flight time which might cause us to arrive around 8-8:30pm. When our flight was delayed, and visa lines were slow, we arrived at 9:08pm. Despite notifying the owner and Sinta when we landed that we'd be late, the owner still instructed Sinta to charge us the late fee. This felt very unfair, as we had been open about our flight schedule and were only 8 minutes late. We felt ripped off, as Sinta would have stayed until after 8:30pm if we had arrived on time, anyway, and we doubt she is paid $30 AUD for having to stay an extra 1/2 hour if that past 9pm. While rules are rules, the lack of grace over an 8-minute delay and the change in check-in cutoff time reflected poorly on the owner. - The villa itself was rundown and in need of some maintenance in the kitchen, bathrooms, and pool. - Overgrown grass, especially behind the pool, detracted from the outdoor experience. The photos showed well-maintained grass, which was not the case during our stay. - Only one towel per person was provided per day, with no separate pool towels. In the humidity, towels didn’t dry well outside, so we ended up taking towels from the unused bathroom. - There was a daily unpleasant sewer smell in the bathroom that came and went, and while showering so I suspect it wafted in from there. - The outside shower didn’t work well due to a corroded tap. - The bed was very hard, which we found uncomfortable, though some might like it. - There were no side lamps in the rooms, so it was difficult to have softer lighting options. - The outdoor furniture was inadequate: small child-size beanbags and a raised daybed with no backrest or pillows were uncomfortable, especially for older guests.
