"A pleasant and comfortable stay with a great atmosphere and thoughtful values."

I liked the overall host approach, the presentation, the resort-style vibe, and the convenient location. Most importantly, I truly appreciated the way they preserve and protect stray animals—loved it.

Nothing in particular.

O local é muito bonito e instagramável. O restaurante do hotel é maravilhoso.

The fact it was. Very authentic staying in old Malay houses and that animals from the shelter were free to wander.

"Loved it"

9.0

Our stay here was wonderful. The location is beautiful peaceful, quiet, and far from the usual hustle and bustle. It’s the kind of place where you can truly switch off. There was even a Filipino artist creating work during our stay, adding such a creative and unique touch to the atmosphere. The lodge itself is old, full of character, and romantic. We visited during the rainy season and honestly, we didn’t mind being “stuck” here at all to wait out the rain. The huge bathtub for couples was a nightly luxury. It’s about a 20-minute walk to the beach and nearby restaurants, which was perfect for us. Just a gentle note: this isn’t a modern, spotless resort and that’s exactly its charm. With a building like this, insects and lizards will occasionally share the room with you, and that’s perfectly normal for the environment. If you embrace that, you’ll love it. Breakfast delivered to the room included in your stay was such a lovely touch, and every staff member we met was genuinely kind and helpful. We requested vegan, so got fruit, juices and cereal. (Could have been better) The pool is small but very cute, and the whole property is full of animals resident cats and wondering dogs ideal for any animal lover. One of the highlights is that the place is attached to an animal shelter which is owned by the same people as the hotel. You can donate, volunteer, walk the dogs, or help feed the cats and kittens. We spent a lot of time with the animals and were so impressed by the two men who run the shelter, they work incredibly hard (deserve a pay raise) and truly care for every single animal there. Overall, this place is special. Not perfect in a modern, polished sense but special in its own authentic, soulful way.

Overall, we found the stay much more expensive for us, as we’re used to Penang Island prices (where we live). Meals were closer to UK pricing so just be aware that food costs may feel high depending on where you’re coming from. The menu was limited for vegans, and leaned heavily European dishes. We often ordered more affordable meals via Grab App or walked 10 minutes to the local shop to stock up on drinks and snacks. There are cheaper restaurants about a 20-minute walk away too. Vegan breakfast could also be improved: ours was very basic (cornflakes in a lunchbox and whole fruit). A key reminder: don’t choose this place if you don’t like animals or insects. The wooden lodges naturally have gaps, and insects or lizards inside are normal. Cats and Dogs are part of the experience and the lodge’s ethos, so arriving prepared will make your stay more enjoyable and less of a shock.
