"Family Getaway"

8.0

The cabin is a time warp (probably 70's) and some of the fittings are a little tired. HOWEVER, it was clean, well equipped and everything worked properly. The open plan lounge/dining area/ kitchen was spacious and easily catered for 5 of us. The bedrooms are on the small size but again, quite adequate with good storage for clothes etc. The beds were clean and comfortable - bunk beds more suitable for children. Bathroom was adequate and plenty of hot water for showers. The location is literally in the middle of nowhere so if peace and quiet are desirable you get it. Within an hour Windermere and other Lakeland towns reachable plus Penrith and Carlisle as well as Dales towns - Hawes, Sedburgh. Beamish is about 90 minutes away. Parking is no problem -we had 2 cars- and the owner who lives in the nearby farmhouse was pleasant and helpful without being intrusive. Excellent value for money.

Nothing.

"Not a holiday I would like to repeat."

2.0

Well, we were on holiday so we were having a break from the day to day, the views were nice. You could wash and dry your clothes.

Every single tap dripped, the shower was shocking - just a dribble and no hot water. The duvet covers were grey and dingy, there were chips in the cups, cracks in the plates, we tightened a couple of pan handles with a knife. One of the dining chairs had been cellotaped together - another rocked dangerously. You are basically in the owners front garden so very overlooked and it is not enclosed - we had a dog but it couldn't be let out for more than a toilet break as it was open to the road. It was tired and dirty with cobwebs and brown caked dirt in the vents, flies everywhere and chips out of everything! wardrobes/drawers/kitchen panels. Water tasted horrible - buy bottled and there was a wi-fi-password taped to the cupboard but no signal to get it (we are with plusnet) We would not return.

"Lovely as always"

8.0

2nd time staying here, lovely location, 1st time with a dog, 2nd time without. Hosts are lovely, leave the essentials in the caravan so you don't have to rush out. Warm and peaceful, fantastic views of the countryside and the typhoons flying over was breath taking. It has alot of unique hidden walks in any direction, little asby scar is certainly worth a picture or two. We use it as a base for our hikes but it has everything you need, washing machine, clothes line, fridge, freezer, plenty of utensils. Certainly an upgrade from a cold caravan.

Had a slight issue with the bath taps being very hard to completely turn off or they would run all night. The main issue both myself and my partner struggled with was the double bed, we sprayed the entire bed down with fly spray as both of us were very itchy and getting bitten by something in the bed, we sprayed the entire caravan down each night and kept all doors and windows closed so I'm unsure what to say it was. The bed itself was lovely and soft just kept waking up itchy, the last 2 nights we made up a bed in the living room with spare sheets. Don't let it put you off this hidden gem as this could've simply been us allergic to washing powder or something.

"We were looking for a quiet and peaceful location to have a few ‘off-grid’ family days, walking and relaxing. Stonygarth"

10.0

Beautiful, quiet location with stunning views surrounded by fields and amazing bird life. You can walk for miles in any direction, and be assured of peace and quiet and wonderful open views wherever you go.

Can’t think of anything.
