Tshikwalo Game Lodge

The service was very good, espesially at the restuarant. We would like to commend Robert on great service provided everyday. He endured we knew when the restuarant closes so that we could get orders in on time.

The only problem we had was with the very limited wifi, we rely on it for work, so advertising wifi when it's limited to 1g is not great.

It is a serene, quiet place and good for a getaway if you like the basic no nonsense facilities that places like this tend to offer. What was very nice was the built-in barbecue stand in the chalet, so I could grill my own meat.

The gas water heater (called a geezer in South Africa) was a problem when showering - the water would suddenly turn too cold or too hot. Finding the right balance was a mission. Also, rain beat me walking from the reception to my car after picking up the keys due to no shelter, and I always got mud on my shoes and in my car because there was simply no paving for example between the chalets and the restaurant and the car park.

It was quiet, with some nice staff, and the food was quite good. It was quite close to the shops and the roads to get there weren't bad.

The internet was terrible, the check-in service quite poor, and the receptionist wasn't very helpful in our WhatsApp correspondence, once we made enquiries about game drives and options.

It was self-catering, and they had everything you needed – cups, glasses, knives, pots, and even a one-plate stove. The braai stand is perfectly placed so it doesn’t block your view of the animals when they wander by. Getting wood, charcoal, or ice is super easy – just a quick phone call, and you're sorted!

Getting the shower temperature right was a mission, even with the instructions provided. It was either boiling hot or freezing cold – not comfy at all. Maybe it was just my chalet? Also, it would be helpful to know the gates open automatically when you get closer. I stood outside for a while before calling to figure it out. The little bar fridges are also not great for self-catering – barely any space! Luckily, it was cold that weekend, or I’m sure some of our food would’ve spoiled.

Each room had its own on-suite bathroom. We weren't far from each other, easy and comfortable. Private swimming pool. Staff were friendly. Especially Bryant, absolute star.
