Father's Land

The location is great. It's remote enough to give you the peace and quiet you want from a vacation, yet still accessible enough to go on day trips. The cabin is very well built and tastefully decorated. The bed upstairs is super comfortable. The outdoor space is huge, and nicely organized. We especially enjoyed the swings. There is an air conditioning unit upstairs which easily cools the entire cabin when used smartly. We had almost everything we needed and the host brought what was missing in the first 2 days. For a couple of nights or a long weekend, it's a great choice.

We booked 6 nights hoping to be able to combine a restful birthday vacation with some work. However, the Wi-Fi wasn't working. The host said it was due to a storm taking out the box, which we know can happen from experience at home, so didn't think much of it. She said they promised to fix it in the next days, that did not happen and at some point, when we kept asking about it, she just stopped responding and communicating altogether. Reading the reviews again I see this is not the first time Wi-Fi was "out due to malfunction or damage" (same story as we heard), so not sure what to think. For us Wi-Fi is a deal breaker and had we seen these reviews before we wouldn't have booked (that was our mistake for not thoroughly reading all the reviews). In the end, because our data packages were limited and we needed to maintain them, we could not work or respond to clients requests and we ended up leaving a day earlier (so lost a day of paid booking). When I tried to contact the host by phone and messages she didn't respond. In fact until the moment of writing this review, I still haven't gotten any reply (I merely wanted to inform her of our leaving early and thank her). There are simple solutions she could have offered (a cellular modem with a local sim for example), but now I am thinking maybe there simply isn't internet connection on the premise and she just didn't want to say it. In retrospect I also saw more reviews about lack of communication. Other things to note, while not "bad" and we didn't mind them, still need to be made clear: The stairs leading up to the bedroom are narrow and steep and there's no handrail. It's not easy to go up and down, especially when carrying your luggage. The bathroom is also downstairs so we left a small light under the stairs on at night to be able to go up and down if needed. The kitchen is very small and very basic.

Location is beautiful and you are almost end of the road so little to no passing traffic. The property has everything you would need.

I was unlucky in that during my stay there was no WiFi and the electric cut out one morning. The hostess did offer me a different apartment to combat the WiFi issue but I didn’t want to have to move again. Also, communication with hostess was difficult. I messaged about issues but never got a response. I didn’t realise there was a second house attached to it, I thought I would be alone so the first night I could hear the neighbours talking and snoring so found it difficult to sleep. There was also a street light outside so not completely dark at night, which was a pity.

The outside was wonderful and relaxing. Loved the swings and views.
